One thing I would love to see in this program is some network integration. What I mean by this is allow to program to interact with the network. I would like to install the program on one main computer and then be able to goto any other computer on my network and install dvd profiler or maybe even a smaller less functional version that doesnt allow you to add dvds. I would like to be able to be on any computer on my network with this program and be able to view my dvd collection and browse through it without having to keep updating my dvd list with the website. It would be nice to just be able to start the program and choose a computer on my network for it to use as the main computer and it would get the list of dvd's from that computer when ever you want.
i guess to make this easier, it would be nice to be able to have a dvd profiler "server" type program and then all other computers on the network would update with the "server" computer on your network.

If this doesnt make sense then tell me and I will try to explain better, but I would love to see this feature.

I don't know whether this would work or not as I don't have my PC system set up that way, but could you not save your database onto a network drive and have all installs of Profiler looking at the same database?
If you're the only user then there should be no problems with read/write issues as you'd only ever have one instance open at any time.

I seem to remember that others do just this.

You could install the old vsn just on the server as well and then just point to it from the various PCs but I imagine witrh the new version you wopuld need to install the program on all the PCs and just have the database files on the server.

You can do exactly that.

I keep my database on my laptop - as that is where I use it the most, and what I use for my updating - but I have my desktop PC setup to read the database on the laptop drive over the network.

On the network computer, go to Open Database in DVDP (file dropdown menu), and navigate to the database location on the network drive and open it.

It is not quite as quick on the desktop due to the speed of getting info over the network, but perfectly serviceable.

Lopek has got it right.  That's exactly how I do it on my home network.  The only problem is that the database can't be shared so you cannot run the program on 2 machines at the same time and use the same database.

I've already posted a request a while back to allow for this but I don't know if Ken will do something about this or not.

It would be nice. I knew you could do it by putting your dvd profiler database on a shared location, but this is still not network friendly and that would mean I would have to keep the program closed on the other computer, which kind of eliminates what im trying to do. The best solution I have now is to simply remote connect to my main computer. Hopefully they will consider a feature like this in the future.

The underlying database supports individual record locking, so it should be possible. However, it may be that the table design and interaction would make it difficult.
