Things that suck about DVD Profiler |

No way to specify "silent" film genre.
No way to specify "color" or "b/w" film.
Yes, I know you can enter tags for the above two, but come on, these are the most basic things to have.
For the number of channels in audio format, there is no way to enter anything other than 5.1, 5.0, or 1.0.
When I enter Mono, it's assumed to be 1.0. Mono can be 2.0 too, you know.
Contributers usually massacre Asian names. Most have NO CLUE about which is last name or first, and the variations of spelling in different localities. This results in multiple duplicate entries. E.g. Chow Yun-fat, Yun-fat Chow, Yueh Hua, Yueh Wah, Hua Yueh, etc. WE NEED A CENTRALIZED, IMDB-LIKE CAST/CREW DATABASE MAINTAINED BY SOMEONE WHO ACTUALLY KNOWS THE LANGUAGE!
No unicode support at all. This would solve the Asian name problem above, because then the names could be entered in the respective native languages.
"Add inserted disc" seldom recognizes the inserted DVD, even when "add disc by UPC" works.
If there is a multi-disc item or two-sided disc, this lousy problem assumes the ENTIRE package to be either NTSC or PAL. It doesn't occur to the programmer that there can be a NTSC and PAL disc in the same package, or a disc with NTSC on one side and PAL on the other. I have one such disc! As I said, they need to drastically redesign their database.
Why can't they just admit it to themselves. They are financially stricken, so they can't hire programmers who are bright enough to design a good enough product.
Because once they admit that, you bunch of arrogant fanboys of this software will have no choice but to admit to yourselves as well that this is a pretty shoddy product! |

It's the only reason I can think of WHY someone who thinks this software package sucks so much would spend so much time here. |

If you don't like the way cast members are listed you can either watch the credits and correct them accordingly, noting your source if you contribute, or modify them locally to what ever the hell you want, as long as you don't contribute it. Any other features you want can be requested in the proper place, to be added or not AS KEN DECIDES.

If you believe IMDb is soooo wonderful, then why are you here. You can store up to 10,000 titles at IMDb completely free of charge and you will have ALL of their totally incorrect data. Maybe you should try buying legal copies of films or buying a new DVD-ROM drive. Of ALL the titles in my collection I have NEVER failed to get a Disc ID reading. Despite the fact that he is a complete and utter troll and deserves your scorn, you can't go accusing people of owning pirated discs because of this widely acknowledged problem with Profiler identifying disc IDs, especially for non US discs. |

Of course you realize, now we'll have Skip spending the next week inserting all 3,247 DVD's and submitting profile updates. |

Multiple Disc ID's /title are very commonplace. As for northbloke's comment I pointed out two separate possibilities based on my own experiences. I have never seenb a disc that is truly unreadable, I had two once, but when i changed DVD-ROM drives both were eminently readable. I have seen the talk of unreadable discs but i don't out much stock in them. Even the DVDplayer reads the Disc ID, it juts doesn't display it, so if you have a disc that plays elsewhere and not on your computer something else is going on that has nothing to do with the disc.
