| Posted: | | | | With the introduction of box sets within box sets and the endless amount of customization that it can bring, it would be neat if we could list a DVD under multiple sets.
For example, say I want to organize my collection by Genre. Currently, if I wanted to add a movie under "Action", I couldn't add it under "Comedy" too since a movie can only exist once in the database.
Think of it as something like Window's "shortcuts". It looks like the actual movie entry but simply points to the real entry in the database. Everything including edits, submissions, etc. are done against the real profile.
Attempting to delete a cloned entry will prompt the user if they wish to delete just the clone or all occurrences. Attempting to delete the physical record will prompt the user that it'll also remove all the clones. May need some kind of visual indicator to distinguish between the actual record and a clone. |

| Posted: | | | | If we go the way of shortcuts, why not go all the way, and have DVD's pointing to movies... | | | Hans |

| Posted: | | | | Quoting Dr. Killpatient: Quote: I meant to say, I'm not sure what a "net" structure is. With net structure I mean a structure where one leaf can depend on multiple branches (in tree terms). I forget what the official mathematical expression is. As you pointed out, it would require the use of shortcuts to keep it manageable at all. Referring to "DVD's pointing to movies", I refer to earlier discussions about separating the technical details of DVD from the content details, so that different (language and other) versions of the same movie have one set of actors/crew/description data. | | | Hans |

| Posted: | | | | I see the point. I have Planet Earth tagged as a TV miniseries and as a nature documentary. But I've placed it in my HD DVD group.
This is a cool idea if done right. For example, the Total DVDs count should remain untouched if you add shortcuts. | | | Get the CSVExport and Database Query plug-ins here. Create fake parent profiles to organize your collection. |
