It would be a good thing to have a rebuttal option in the voting process when someone votes NO on your contribution. A person has to give a reason for voting NO, but the contributor has no way of responding, other than going to the forum or withdrawing and resubmitting.

What do you think?

Good idea.  Or, make the Contribution Notes area susceptible to editing, and with enough space to leave explanations.

Making the contribution notes editable invites abuse.  Maybe add onto, but never change the previous contribution note.

When someone voted NO on one of my contributions and I felt that they were in error, I simply PM'ed them.  But some people have blocked others so maybe over-ride the block for no contributions?

That said, I like the rebuttal option.

No way!

"No" votes are often the trigger for unwanted PMs!

PMing just stays between the two people. Some voters are like sheep they see a no vote and go with the flow. With a rebuttal everyone would be able to see the contributors reasoning.

Some form of rebuttal would be nice, but how many people recheck the voting after they voted?

If you want to rebut a NO vote you likely have to PM the initial NO voter(s) anyway to get their attention but it might certainly deflect the any follow-up NO votes without having to restart the voting process.

Or maybe an auto-generated generic PM from a bitbucket letting them know about the rebuttal.

That's a good idea too.

I think Ken has mentioned the possibility of a vote rebuttal process, but that was a few months ago as I recall. Could be one of his forthcoming goodies though.

I am not clear on this: can a vote be changed, like in forum polls?

Yes, you can change your vote on a contribution whenever you want.  Just go back to the "Database" page and click on "All Pending Updates" and you can see all the contributions you've voted on that have not been processed yet.

Maybe I'm alone in this, but I tend to go back and check previous contributions I've voted on to see how the vote is going and whether I may have missed something that has been pointed out in someone else's vote.

As far as the comments about the original voter seeing the rebuttal that is posted, I don't think that really matters.  I would imagine the rebuttal is more for the screener to see than it is an attempt to change the mind of the voter.

My problem in the past when I voted no on a contribution, I have received PM's that many times are abusive and somewhat childish, and continue far beyond the time the contribution is approved or declined. Even later when one of those users vote yes on one of mine, I have received snide comments with the vote. I always appreciate when someone points out a mistake I have made. It is just some users cannot accept that I have an opinion that is opposite from theirs.

(I will mention there have been a few folks with whom I have civil discussions with as well, and they far outweigh the others.)

You are not alone but i'd guess we are in the minority.  That is just a guess though.

Sometimes i've PM'd no voters (civilly i hope) and managed to persuade a vote change due to confusion between my submittal notes and their understanding of them.

Clarification directed at the screener would be equally, if not more, useful.

Yeah, I like the idea of being able to comment on a no vote too, because I've PMd no voters in the past stating (politely) why I think they're wrong and simply get no response. How can you discuss a vote if they won't talk to you.
This way at least you can let the screeners know why you think a no vote is invalid.

Northbloke makes a good argument there with letting the screeners know your thoughts about the NO vote casted.

I've had a wide-range of contribution PM's that sometimes resulted in getting the vote changed.  Hell, I even got Skip to change his NO to a YES on one.

I would have to say that a rebuttal would need to be cleared if the vote changes to a YES but maintained if left as a NO or changed from a YES back to a NO.
