| Posted: | | | | Having one through many of the UK profiles to flag profiles not for the UK locality, it's disturbing how many of them are post-Invelos submissions. It might be worth performing some checks before a profile can be contributed and warning the user where the checks fail.
E.g. check that the locality matches the currency.
Of course, the user should be able to continue with the submission if they wish. | | | This is a sig... ... ... yay...
Don't understand? Maybe DVDProfilerWiki.org does! |

There must be someway of checking by UPC/EAN since the starting codes are for diferent countries.

About UPC/EAN checking: SOME form of that is already in place. There was a Dutch profile that was converted wrongly from Intervocative (different first digit than the cover EAN actually had), and it would not let me contribute it by its actual EAN ("invalid UPC" message) with Netherlands as locality. Had to resort to contributing it by Disc ID. |

That is different. EANs are designed with an internal checksum so that invalid numbers have a reasonable chance of being spotted. In particular, if you change one digit of a valid number, or swap two adjacent digits, you will always get an invalid number. In the case you mention it is likely that the box had an invalid EAN printed on it. But I agree that extra checks would be great. | | | Last edited: by jaap |

Steve The "starting codes" stand for the country the EAN is registered and not the country the product is sold. They do not help us to verify the locality. But a currency check would be nice. I think that there already exists some form of region check. I think it is not possible to contribute a profile to the locality US which does not include 1 in the region code (except all regions). |
