Even though most of my DVD are titled in French, I'm more used to use the Original Title.
Using the Sort Title via Personalize is not really usefull; it doesn't sort all the titles alphabetically. |

It orders the titles according to the ASCII values of the characters - this will typically appear to be sorted for English titles, but if you have any characters beyond a-z in the title you might have to write the sort title without these characters using whatever combination of the characters giving the correct result. For example to get a Danish title starting with Aa to the end of the list where it belong the sort title can be written with ZZ (or "å" as it will sort after z, but then you have to make sure it works with other characters). Luckily operating systems have been able to sort decently for a long long time.... unfortunately DVD Profiler does not ask the OS to do the sorting, it attempts to do it itself... and fails. | | | Regards Lars |

Maybe I am missing something, but why can't you just put the Original Title in to the sort field? | | | No dictator, no invader can hold an imprisoned population by force of arms forever. I think that would require a sort field for each title field. I think Mark is correct. Profiler does not sort based on the 'title' field, it sorts based on the 'sort' field. Yes, it does default to what is in the 'title' field, but that can be changed. | | | No dictator, no invader can hold an imprisoned population by force of arms forever. | Posted: | | | | Maybe we need an option to be able to select which title field we sort by: Title, Original or Sort? Either that or a way to copy from either title field to the sort field en masse (excepting locked titles of course). |

| Posted: | | | | But some people want to be able to sort by title once time and original title the next, and back to title the next. The best solution would be multiple sort titles. That would make the most people happy. Anything else only gets you part way there.
I'm sure there are some who would be quite happy if you could put the original title in the sort title, but for others, that's not enough. | | | Get the CSVExport and Database Query plug-ins here. Create fake parent profiles to organize your collection. |

| Posted: | | | | If I am reading it correctly, I agree with Mark. The solution has to be multiple sort fields. Maybe that is something that Ken could add as a 'local only' feature. | | | No dictator, no invader can hold an imprisoned population by force of arms forever. | Posted: | | | | Actually I would be happy even without a sort title field. I do not use the sort title field for anything else than removing the leading article. But switching between sorting to original title and DVD title would be appreciated. Of course I would not mind a second sort title field. |

But if you're giong to ask Ken to take the time to fix this issue, why not ask him to take the time to do it properly? Otherwise you'll quickly have new threads pointing out the problems with what you suggest. | | | Get the CSVExport and Database Query plug-ins here.
