How about giving the user a possibility to create his own additional database fields as he sees fit?
They could be stored under the "personalize DVD" dialog and exported to XML like:
<Usercreated>
<IMDB>123456</IMDB>
<other_field_I_miss>foobar</other_field_I_miss>
...
</Usercreated>
Quite similar to Tags, but where Tags can only be set/not_set the additional fields can hold alphanumerics.
The existing field "Notes" is unfortunately unfit for such a purpose, when one wants to stick to clean XML.
