| Posted: | | | | I would love to be able to have a wealth of information, similar to that seen on IMDB, in DVD profiler about the cast and crew within DVD profiler.
For example, it would be nice to click on a cast member and have a display of all of the movies, tv shows, appearances they have made in their career. Similar to that of the awards plugin. It would also be cool to have the movies that they've appeared in, that also appear in your collection, to turn red or have a tick next to them.
As an extension to this idea, the user could choose to click the tick to go to the DVD in your collection or click the title to acces the IMDB page for that title (for example). OR there could just be a link to the IMDB page next to the Title, the titles that appear in red (or any other colour) could be hyperlinks which could take you to the DVD in your collection, whatever works best!
Hope that makes sense! | | | "What a pathetic excuse for a DVD collection" |

| Posted: | | | | I understand but why should we duplicate IMDb. Why not do everything they do? Trivia, favorite lines from the film etc...which ultimately leads to the question why not use IMDb, since it already exists. Skip | | | ASSUME NOTHING!!!!!! CBE, MBE, MoA and proud of it. Outta here

| Posted: | | | | I have to agree with Skip on this one. I personally would prefer it to stick with the DVD details... if I want more info on the cast, crew or movie itself I can go to one of many sites for that info. In my opinion to much unrelated info (to the dvd) can be a bad thing. | | | Pete |

| Posted: | | | | I do not think it is a good idea to provide links to IMDb within the app. However, I think it might be a cool idea to link to an Invelos hosted page that shows all of the DVD titles they have stored that link with that cast or crew member. Today you can view titles in your own collection they are associated, but certainly it would be possible to view all the known database titles they're associated with too. | | | JAFO

Although it is possible to create a custom HTML window in the app that you can populate yourself. But the data won't be shared. | | | Get the CSVExport and Database Query plug-ins here. Create fake parent profiles to organize your collection. |

| Posted: | | | | Yes I think it's better to don't add in the Online Database this type of information for several reason. First for copyright issues possible and second, it's something personal and nobody would like to store the same content so it will always ping-pong. If you want you can use the Notes fields to add this type of information or use the HTML windows created by an user of the forum that automatically displays the IMDb's page for the movie selected in DVD Profiler. | | | Regards Cyrille |

| Posted: | | | | I know why I wanted this now, it's just occurred to me, I wanted to have some sort of statistic that showed me how many DVD's of a particular cast/crew member I have left until I have a complete anthology of their career.
Say DeNiro has his hand in 40 features for example (I know it's more), then how many of them features I have and what ones I have left to purchase.
I dunno, perhaps it's a stupid idea but it seemed good at the time I thought of it! | | | "What a pathetic excuse for a DVD collection" |

| Posted: | | | | I know you can currently view all the movies/shows you have with a specific actor in it. This could (possibly) be modified to also show all the movies, kind of like how dvd profiler mobile shows the online profiles.
I guess the problem would be that without the whole profile it wouldn't be able to link the actor to the movie and I don't think anyone here wants to download every profile from the online database. Though if the database include a lookup table (actor, movie title or upc) that would decrease the size needed as its just one table (which could probably get fairly large). It would have to be a SELECT DISTINCT on title to a ) keep the size down and b) keep it from listing the same movie multiple times.
You could then expand it by letting you click on the titles you don't have and do an add to collection (default to wishlist?) though since multiple profiles could exist for the title it would probably be best to just bring you to the add by title prefilling the title with the selected one.
Just some thoughts on how it could be accomplished without linking to an external source or requiring the whole online database to be downloaded.
