I would like the addition of text effects added to the Overview to allow boldface and italics to be used, even if only in the forum code format for data entry. This will allow us to do away with the ticks to represent either and present a true representation of the text effects.
A side-effect would be a mass submission of profiles so I would also recommend that removal of ticks should only be part of a wider contribution. |

| Posted: | | | | I do not like the ticks nor would I like text mark up like bold face or italics for the overview. IMO The overview should be the plain text representation of the overview on the cover. No bold, no all caps, no footnotes just plain text. The rules should be changed accordingly. | | | Last edited: by RHo |

| Posted: | | | | Maybe add the text effects but have an option checkbox to disable them on display? Hell, could have an option to display the ticks for those who want them (though so far doesn't seem like there are many who do). |

| Posted: | | | | Why exactly are the ticks there, anyway? I mean besides all the voting that has to get done every time someone stumbles across a bold word that didn't get ticked, they seem darn near useless. For me, they just clutter up the text and make things less readable. Now actual bold print or whatever would be fine but the ticks alone makes things look worse, in my opinion. |

| Posted: | | | | Doc: This is a fundamental Rule change,,,live with it. Ultimately at some point Ken has promised to give us the ability to do BOLD, italics, underlines, etc. NO COLORS...don't EVEN think about it. My suspicion is we will see this soone rather than later. Having the single quotes will make it easiy for ken to make a global correction, then we will have to go back and polish it up., as the most common usage is italics, we will have to manually fix it for Bold orunderlines. I thought about using " for Bold and maybe something like * for underlines but decided that would not be real cool. Skip | | | ASSUME NOTHING!!!!!! CBE, MBE, MoA and proud of it. Outta here

| Posted: | | | | Skip: I agree, no colors - but this is a feature request and has nothing to do with the current rules though it does have the implication of changing the rules regarding ticks if implemented since the rule would become obsolete. | | | Last edited: by Dr. Killpatient |

| Posted: | | | | I'm fine with any eventual code change. It can't come soon enough, in my opinion. Right now the current trend to sweep through overviews and add all these ticks is driving me crazy. Now if it was actual boldface, or what have you, I'd probably be pretty enthusiastic about these profile changes.
I must admit that I do find it tempting to think about color. Mmmmm....color. | | | Last edited: by mdnitoil |

No you are not requesting a feature, you requesting a FUNDAMENTAL change to the rules, one that has been in effect for over TWO years and would take untold man-hours to undo...forget it.

| Posted: | | | | Skip: It is not a fundamental change to the rules. Fundamental would mean a MAJOR change. The end effect would be removing the following bold-faced text. Quote: Overviews should match the back of the DVD case exactly, including capitalization of words exactly as it is shown on the back of the case. If words are highlighted in italic or bold on the case, then identify them with ‘single quotation’ marks. Exception: If the entire overview uses an uppercase font, enter the overview using standard capitalization rules. |

| Posted: | | | | Yes Doc, and we have been doing that for TWO years. Sorry guy, it's a FUNDAMENTAL change and i am not interested in laboring into infinity just BECAUSE.....like I said live with it. There have been far too many man-hours spent to the Rule to have you want it undone. Skip | | | ASSUME NOTHING!!!!!! CBE, MBE, MoA and proud of it. Outta here

| Posted: | | | | If by fundamental you mean the number of profiles that would need to be updated, I addressed that in my original post. It would be something that takes effect over time, not all at once.
If you mean that many, many hours went into deciding that bold and italics should be represented by a single quote, well, progress brings change. It didn't stop the people who spent months building the 286 CPU core even though they know it would be obsolete in a couple years. | | | Last edited: by Dr. Killpatient |

| Posted: | | | | I really, really dislike the ticks to the point that I rarely contribute overviews as a result. To me, the laboring into infinity is using one mark to denote any of three things (bold, italic, or actual text). If I could have plain text, I would be happy. If Ken can come up with a way to suppress the ticks for people like me while converting them to bold and italics for those that want that, I guess that would be fine. I'd still not contribute them most likely unless the interface was improved (select a word and input ctrl-b for bold, for example). | | | ...James
