I wish to extract a comment from the Separate fields for Production Companies and Distributors that Goodguy left because I think it warrants its own consideration.

Finally, may I point out that the Filter window for Studios (and then DVD distributors) is in desperate need of a text search to complement the checkboxes, just as it is already possible for the Cast/Crew filter.

I agree that this is desperately needed.  It's really a nuisance to have to scroll through hundreds of studios to find the one that you want.

If I recall correctly, Ken Cole argued once that you could type into the list window to do an incremental search. While this is true, it is also very inconvenient. First, you have to type fast enough, otherwise subsequent chars will initiate a new search,  e.g. typing "f-o-x" may end up at "X Verleih", because you paused a moment too long before the "x". Second, it only works from the start of the studio name, whereas what's really needed is a substring search. For example, "f-o-x" might bring you near "Fox 2000", "Fox Lorber" and "Fox Searchlight", but both "20th Century Fox" and "Twentieth Century Fox" are far away.

Another thing that would come in handy for this and all other text searches (Title, Overview, etc.) would be the support of at least simple wildcards like "?" and "*".

Good points about substring searches AND simple wildcards.  The logic must be in Profiler somewhere, because it isn't so hard to find a studio when you're editing the data in a specific profile -- only when you want to set up filters.
