The timing was right for Lionsgate’s 3:10 to Yuma remake. With no high-profile theatrical competition from the majors, the film topped both the national home video sales and rental charts the week ended Jan. 13, giving Lionsgate the edge on January market share.
3:10 to Yuma earned $53.6 million in theaters and easily captured the top spot on the Nielsen VideoScan First Alert sales chart, outselling Sony Pictures Home Entertainment’s Resident Evil: Extinction, in its second week in stores, by a 4-to-1 margin.
Also new to the First Alert top 10 are three other new releases: Sony Pictures’ Dragon Wars at No. 4 and, from 20th Century Fox Home Entertainment, Death Sentence at No. 5 and Sunshine at No. 9.
On Home Media Magazine’s video rental chart, 3:10 to Yuma shot to No. 1 its first week in stores with estimated rental revenue of $10.8 million, or 20% of the film’s entire theatrical gross.
Another Lionsgate film, War, the top rental last week, held tight at No. 2 its second week in stores, adding another $9.7 million to its coffers. After two weeks in stores, War has now generated an estimated $21.5 million in rental revenue, or 96% of its theatrical gross of $22.5 million.
On the rental chart, Death Sentence bowed at No. 5, Dragon Wars debuted at No. 11 and Sunshine came in at No. 16.
On the high-def media front, 3:10 to Yuma topped the Blu-ray Disc chart for the week, while The Kingdom remained the No. 1 HD DVD seller. | | | | Signature banned: Reason out of date... |

Home Media Magazine reports that Blu-ray last week captured 85 percent of high-def disc sales compared to HD DVD's 15 percent.
Blu-ray discs have consistently outsold HD DVD by a 2-1 margin for the last year, but last week's numbers reflect the greatest disparity yet in the format war.
Even worse for HD DVD, Home Media Magazine writes that the top 10 high-def disc sellers were all Blu-ray. The best-selling HD DVD, The Kingdom, sold just 10 percent as many discs as the best-selling Blu-ray title, 3:10 to Yuma.
The numbers are the first indicator of the damage done to HD DVD by Warner Bros' endorsement of Blu-ray on January 4.
The Warner decision gave Blu-ray a 5-2 'major studio' advantage over HD DVD and prompted widespread speculation that HD DVD can't survive the format war.

We've already had info from other threads posted as their own threads days later that resuted in two megative feedbacks on posts made by me. That negatvie feedback was also unwarrented. So, either I post it, or someone else does. Edit: It also shows (the images) what titles are in the top 10, what studio released them. | | Posted: | | | | I think all threads that show the differences and where the trend may go say to speak are extrememly useful to those of us that are planning on upgrading our DVD Players. In the home entertainment/electronics industry things can change in the blink of an eye. Stuff that looks like it will be the standard can be toppled and we are left with possibly thousands of dollars of nearly worthless junk. So the more information that is posted is good for us. |
