| Posted: | | | | This is just a thought... Has anyone brought up the request in the past for a totally local database? It would be nice to have the option to be a contributor to the online database or not. By doing this, those who choose not to contribute could customize their own database without affecting the online database. Personally, I like to catalog my movies for my own enjoyment, not that I think the contribution system is bad, quite the opposite, I think it's a great idea. But I would also like the flexibility of customizing many of the drop down lists with personal choices of my own, or adding more choices to the "Additional Features" section, etc. And I do understand that if those options were available for everyone to contribute then the online database would get totally out of control. Which is why I'm suggesting a version of DVD Profiler that could be used as a stand alone local database. I am not any kind of a programmer or anything, so I have no idea how easy or hard this would be to do. Maybe it could be something as simple as an option to choose when registering...or...if the program notes a change in one of the predefined lists it automacally classifies you as a non-contributor to the online database. Just some thoughts. I am new to DVD Profiler, still playing with it to see all that it can do. So far I really like it except for some of the issues I've already talked about. I have previously been using a program called CATVIDS which may have spoiled me on the customizing of personal lists. CATVIDS doesn't even compare though when it comes to the visual interface and ease of use. I really like the look of DVD Profiler and how all the information canned be accessed without jumping around from window to window. Anyway...an all local version would be great for those of us who don't mind being contributors, although I would love to contribute I wouldn't want to be responsible for clogging up the online database. Thanks for listening. |

The Contribution Rules have no effect on your local, you write the Rules, The Contribution Rules ONLY come into play when you are Contributing to the Online.

| Posted: | | | | Here are some of the things I would like to do locally that I'm not sure can be done, if not I guess I am making a feature request... -Add to the "Extra Features" list, either by adding more check box options or at least enlarging the capacity in the "Other" extra features Note box (right now the input limit is very small) -A way to add to the "Genres" list -A way to add to the "Case Type" list -Have the "Location" field be a drop down list that includes all added locations. -Also, it would be nice to have a place (besides notes or tags) to enter a "Rated For" entry. Again, these could all be local as not to mess with the online data.

| Posted: | | | | OK Jimmy, you CAN do these now, by using the TAG system and or Notes, both of which a personal and not Contributed.
Extra Features might be a little difficult, but if you did it I would say Notes Genre, Case Type, Locations would best be handled via Tags.

| Posted: | | | | Well, that's what I thought and why I stated it would be nice to do them WITHOUT using the "Notes" or "Tags" fields. So, for now I guess they just remain Feature Requests. |
