For example, Solaris (1972) was made in the USSR, and is given a CoO "Former Soviet Republic" (or some such; I'm at work and can't check the exact wording), which is not unreasonable, though "USSR" would be better. But then you get things like The Defense of Sevastopol (1912), made in Russia before the formation of the Soviet Union, and Mamay (2003) made in Ukraine after the USSR collapsed.
Grouping all of these together into a single country is like forcing a film made in Arizona into a "Former Spanish Empire" CoO. |
