"Believe it or not, we have to remaster Armageddon,” he said. “The Armageddon [master] was burned in a fire apparently, so we’ve got to re-master the whole movie.” Full Article | | | Signature banned: Reason out of date... |

| Posted: | | | | Be nice... It wasn't all that bad. It was kinda funny to see how different movies depicting very similar events usually get released pretty close together.
Armageddon (1/5/1999) Deep Impact (2/1/2000)
Both have somewhat similar plots: rogue comet on collision course with the earth and will probably set of an ELE (Extinction Level Event) and destroy mankind. | | | Peter

"Believe it or not, we have to remaster Armageddon,” he said. “The Armageddon [master] was burned in a fire apparently, so we’ve got to re-master the whole movie.” Why not just "borrow" the Criterion master like you did with The Rock? Someone's got a thing for Michael Bay here today. Make that two votes for burning the original print, what an epilepsy-inducing mess of a film... | | | Erik

| Posted: | | | | Criterion's master wasn't high-def, as the disc was non-anamorphic (one of their early DVD releases [Spine 40] and the last release of their laserdiscs). |

True, wasn't sure whether or not the DVD being non-anamorphic really mattered for a potential HD disc or not (haven't gotten "instructed" too much on this part of the process by some film-guru friends ). Well, re-master it is then. Perhaps Bay can re-cut the film while he's at it. Even he admits the cutting is over-the-top insane on the commentary track... | | | Erik

| Posted: | | | | Many DVD masters in recent years are done in high-def, then scaled down for DVD. Hi-def in 1920x1080. A non-anamoprhic transfer is 720x480 and a quarter of the vertical resolution is wasted on black bars. A high-def transfer would have eight times the resolution. |
