The index of accepted/documented birth years that was previously listed here, wasn't being updated any more. Instead of keeping an incomplete list, I'm now providing a link to an up-to-date list, maintained by Kluge:

www.luigifilocamo.it/BY.html

Please keep in mind that birth years are only valid when they're necessary to differentate between two people who share the same common name - only sharing name variants isn't enough. Also note that as far as the need for birth years are concerned, there is no separation between cast and crew - so adding a birth year to differentiate between a cast and crew member is valid.

There's also a list of known invalid birth years. For each of these names, there is only ONE person with that (common!) name in the database, meaning their birth years aren't needed, nor allowed. Where available, I've included a link to additional information. This "invalid"-list is obviously far from complete - let me know when you've found another one, so I can include it here for easy reference. Please strip these invalid birth years from any profiles you see them in.

INVALID BIRTH YEARS

Kathy Bates (1948)  Documented as invalid here.
Marshall Bell (1945)
Xander Berkeley (1955)  Documented as invalid here.
Michael Byrne (1943)  Documented as invalid here.
Tommy Chong (1938)  Documented as invalid here.
Blake Clark (1946)  Documented as invalid here.
John Cleese (1939)
Robert De Niro (1943)
Tom Everett (1948)  Documented as invalid here.
Jason Flemyng (1966)
Roger Frost (1948)
Lance Henriksen (1940)
Robert Hoffman (1939)  Documented as invalid here.
Samuel L. Jackson (1948)
Lucy Liu (1968)
Nan Martin (1927)  Documented as invalid here.
Paul Massey (1958)
Philip Morris (1893)  Documented as invalid here.
Ryan Murphy (1965)  Documented as invalid here.
Ken Ralston (1954)  Documented as invalid here (discussion includes the subsequent posts on the same page by Kluge and Sidrat).
Scott Rudin (1958)
Michael Semanick (1963)
Joel Silver (1952)  Documented as invalid here.
Amber Smith (1972)  Documented as invalid here: the correct birth year is 1971.
Kurtwood Smith (1943)  Documented as invalid here.
Frank Welker (1945)
Fred Willard (1933, 1938 and 1939)  Documented as invalid here.
Ian Whyte (1971)

Further updates here:

www.invelos.com/Forums.aspx?task=viewtopic&topicID=611900/BY.html

Keep in mind that this list only tracks invalid birth years that somehow managed to slip through and actually made it onto Invelos' own "approved" list, meaning that no checkbox appears when you'd try to contribute it. It does not include incorrect and/or unneeded birth years that aren't on Invelos' own "approved" list and for which a checkbox appears.

This seems like something that would be a natural for a wiki, if we had one.  I think I'll go ask for one right now.

Did you ask for a pin already?
It all seems so stupid, it makes me want to give up!
But why should I give up, when it all seems so stupid?

Not yet, I figured I would wait to see if people added confirmed BYs first.  Didn't seem to make any sense until I saw if there was going to be an interest in it.
No dictator, no invader can hold an imprisoned population by force of arms forever.
There is no greater power in the universe than the need for freedom.
Against this power, governments and tyrants and armies cannot stand.

What about already accepted BYs that don't seem to have much documentation but seem to be correct? I just checked all of my profiles with Harrison Ford (1942) and none of them say anything other than basically differentiating him from the 1884 Harrison Ford silent film star.

Since I have 4 profiles with no BY in the online, I am going to contribute them with the following for documentation:

Quote:
Updating BY for Harrison "Indy" Ford (1942) to distinguish him from the silent film star of the same name born in 1884. This BY has been previously accepted into the online, but has not yet been assigned to this profile.

Harrison Ford (1942) (aka Indiana Jones):
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Harrison_Ford
"Harrison Ford (born July 13, 1942) is an Academy Award-nominated, Golden Globe- and Saturn Award-winning American actor. Ford is best known for his performances as the tough, wisecracking space pilot Han Solo in the original Star Wars trilogy and as the adventurous archaeologist and action hero Dr. Henry "Indiana" Jones Jr. in the Indiana Jones film series."
http://www.filmreference.com/film/20/Harrison-Ford.html
"Born July 13, 1942, in Chicago, IL; son of Christopher (an actor, later became an advertising executive) and Dorothy (a homemaker) Ford;"

Harrison Ford (1884) silent film star:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Harrison_Ford_(silent_film_actor)
"Harrison Ford (March 16, 1884 – December 2, 1957) was an U.S. actor in the silent film era of the 1910s and 20s."
http://www.goldensilents.com/stars/harrisonford.html
"His Variety obituary was short: "Harrison Ford, 72, silent picture leading man, died Monday, December 2, 1957, at Motion Picture Country Hospital as a result of an accident suffered in 1951." Also a good source for a head shot and his complete filmography.

I am including a short quote from each web site (which I believe would be fair use) in case the links go dead in the future. Is that a good idea or will it make the list too long.

I am a tad concerned about that as well.  I am thinking of changing the formatting to make them shorter.  We shall see.

That is fine for the individual posts.  I probably won't include it all in the main post as it might, as you noted, make the list too long.  Keeping them in the individual posts will give some historic data.

What if you simply update the first post with the actor/BY pair and maybe one or two links (the actor's official site would be best) then have a link to the original post in the thread (or at least the page its on) that has the full detail of the BY

Here's a birth year I added for Bill Bailey (1964), a UK actor:
original notes: added birth year for Bill Bailey - taken from http://www.chortle.co.uk/comics/b/371/bill_bailey
as there is a Bill Bailey in the 1st 2 Christopher Reeve Superman films (no birth year found).

After reading the title, I clicked on the thread to make the suggestion of creating a thread for this very purpose.  +1

Send a PM to Ken/Gerri asking them to pin it.
