| Posted: | | | | No surprise there. "As a result of recent decisions made by Toshiba, Hollywood studios, and retailers, Microsoft plans to withdraw from HD DVD. Xbox will no longer manufacture new HD DVD players for the Xbox 360, but we will continue to provide standard product and warranty support for all Xbox 360 HD DVD Players in the market. As we stated earlier, we do not believe this decision will have any material impact on the Xbox 360 platform or our position in the marketplace. HD DVD is one of the several ways we offer a high definition experience to consumers and we will continue to give consumers the choice to enjoy digital distribution of high definition movies and TV shows directly to their living room, along with playback of the DVD movies they already own." Het bedrijf geeft wel nog ondersteuning en garantie op reeds verkochte spelers. | Posted: | | | | Blu-ray Xbox 360 Planned By MicrosoftBy David Richards | Monday | 18/02/2008 Rumours were circulating today that Microsoft is set to dump HD DVD and bring out a Blu ray Xbox 360 by as early as May 2008. The move will allow the Company to go head to head with the Sony PS3 gaming console which has been credited with being one of the main reasons that retailers have preferred Blu-ray over Toshiba’s HD DVD. | | | Sources for one or more of the changes and/or additions were not submitted. Ordered mine from Amazon $136 includes 6, yes 6, free HD DVDs. Oh my ... (Here are my inner thoughts - don't tell MS: hoping that the drivers that allow HD play on XBOX 360 will also work with my USB attached LG HD/BD , if so, somebody gets to buy a new XBOX HD drive really cheaply). | | | Thanks for your support. Source: Gamerscoreblog No biggie ... if I can get one for $49 and 6 DVDs, I'll do it - return the other (or keep them both - sell the extra DVDs). Amazon is as likely to drop their proce as anybody - then I'll just request a refund. Latest news. Fiirst my order was put on backorder, now cancelled. They ran out before they could even fulfill pending orders. Good luck to you guys! Looks like I missed out. Even later news - whew! Ran over to Xbox360.com where price is listed as $49.99 and chose my local Circuit City for pickup. Printed the 5 Free form. Fingers crossed - looking good right now. | | | Thanks for your support. | Posted: | | | | They do seem to still be processing the 5 free movies offer. I got mine yesterday (after writing them off) and it only took 4 months | | | Schultzy - http://www.michaelschultz.net grenactics - The art of skillfully fraggin one’s opponent with the use of grenades or other compact explosive devices that are thrown by hand or projected. |

| Posted: | | | | OMG I'm numb from excitement! How else could $49 bring so much joy? (Now, now ...)
Picked up my unit from CC and put on "Coming To America" and King Kong. Gasp ... HD is stunning visually and aurally. Well I knew that, but the Xbox 360, even over component, blows the socks off my HTPC, fancy graphics card and Cyberlink Ultra into the VGA port (essentially component quality supposedly). Simply awesome in all respects.
Run - do not walk, to get this deal. Plug it into your PC also. Amazing. Who cares how long the player lasts? (Buy two if you do). I mean you can still buy cassette decks, VHS players and phono players today - so ....
Now, I plugged the LG BD/HD drive into the XBOX360 USB port and it was not recognized, even after the HD player was installled (no real surprise). Next step - I will dismanlte the HD unit and substitue the LG drive - stay tuned - unless somebody beats me to it ...
P.S. BTW I love those old movies re-mastered cause they use the whole 16x9 real estate. The wide-format movies waste 20% of my HDTV screen space. Even so, seeing King Kong up close - and his luscious scantily clad love interest - oh my ...
Did I mention that the unit comes with an XBoX360 universal remote? Oh, yeah - it's definitely ya brithday!
Final edit: Made some tweaks in cyberlink. Closed the gap a lot. XBOX still wins. Plugged the drive into my MCE 2005 system. Windows found and downloaded drivers - clean and fast installation in under 2 minutes. Works like a charm. | | | Thanks for your support. Free Plugins available here. Advanced plugins available here.
