Ironically, although Blu-ray has been declared the winner, it is right now about the worst time to invest in a standalone Blu-ray player, because of the high prices and looming obsolescence. Many of the current Blu-ray manufacturers have announced new players that will support BD Profile 2.0, so my advice would be to buy a PS3 or wait for the next-gen players. In the meantime, buy a dirt cheap HD DVD player and some even cheaper HD DVD movies. |

| | Posted: | | | | Well, lets see. I bought my Sony BDP S300 last June for $500. It was down to $300 in January 2008. Now up to $400. Because of the cost of a barrel of crude? If the price per barrel should happen to go down at any time this coming year will that be reflected in the price we play for players and discs? I also note that the Blu-ray disc pricing at Best Buy and Borders "seems" to be up, about $5.00 more per disc. I'd have to check my credit card receipts back to last June to be certain. | | Posted: | | | | It's not a conspiracy. Sony did what they needed to do to defeat HD-DVD. Now they can take advantage of the fact that Blu-ray is the only Hi-Def choice going forward. If the price of oil, the relative strength or weakness of the dollar, etc., can be thrown into the mix to justify any decisions they make about products and pricing, all the better from Sony's point of view. It's just business, not personal. |

It's disgusting! LOL..... And, there still is competition... just not with a competing format. Sharp competes with Sony who competes with LG who competes with... we you get the picture.
