| Posted: | | | | I recently bought the Onkyo 605. (Mostly because it is able to play TrueHD and DTS HD). I have a Toshiba EP30 HD-DVD Player. I connected the Player with the onkyo via HDMI cable. The connection is ok, but the Onkyo only displays the message "Multichannel". I heard that's a common problem. Does anyone know how to correct that? | | | Check out my Youtube channel under https://www.youtube.com/user/alittleolder |

| Posted: | | | | Hello Stephan,
It seems the EP30 cannot produce a bitstream output and it's sending an uncompressed decoded PCM to the Onkyo.
The EP35 can produce bitstream up to TrueHD The A35 can produce bitstream up to DTS-HD MA
Only in bitstream mode will you see the logo's lit. I couldn't find the manual of the EP30 online. So check anyway if the forums are wrong.

| Posted: | | | | Stephan: Your 605 might require a firmware upgrade, but the EP30 won't output direct sound as bitstream over HDMI anyway, you'll need an EP35 or XE1 for that. You'll get a decoded PCM stream instead. | | | First registered: February 15, 2002 | | | Last edited: by Nexus the Sixth |

| Posted: | | | | I am currently trying the firmware update. Maybe that does something. To avoid that in the future: I am planning to buy the Samsung BD-P1400. Will it be displayed then. Does anyone know how I can update my Onkyo 605? | | | Check out my Youtube channel under https://www.youtube.com/user/alittleolder |

If you have broadband internet service, you may obtain the firmware update over the internet using the Ethernet port on the back of your HD DVD player. Instructions for configuring the Ethernet port and downloading the firmware update can be found in the owner's manual and Update Procedure sheet for your HD DVD player. Please review these before you commence the firmware update process. | | | Sources for one or more of the changes and/or additions were not submitted. | Posted: | | | | Ok, I finished updating the firmware. But it still says: Multichannel. If I understood you right I still have the right sound, just the right LED's on the display arend blinking. Onkyo had this to say: Onkyo A/V receiver’s from TXSR 605 and up can decode Dolby TrueHD and the DTS –HD Master bitstream audio data. Currently there is no Blu-Ray or a HD DVD players on the market with the ability of providing this bit for bit audio streams. Players currently on the market are decoding True HD and DTS HD data and sending it through the HDMI connection as PCM. Because of this the receiver will display PCM Multi Channel. Only when players have the ability to send bitstream signals to the receivers will the receivers be able to decode the signal. Only then will True HD, Dolby Plus or DTS HD be displayed on the front panel. Well so much for that. How will I go about updating my Onkyo 605 with the new firmware? | | | Check out my Youtube channel under https://www.youtube.com/user/alittleolder |

| Posted: | | | | Firmware Updates TX-SR605A firmware update for the TX-SR605 is now available through Onkyo’s Independent Regional Service Centers. This update will address the product’s ability to decode the Dolby Digital, Dolby TrueHD, DTS HD High Resolution and Master Audio bit stream signals when products incorporating this capability become available in the market. This update affects only a limited number of early production TX-SR605 units. Onkyo has included this update in all later production models. To determine if your unit is one of the few affected units please validate your serial number. | | | Sources for one or more of the changes and/or additions were not submitted. Yes, it updates the firmware, but it does nothing to change the hardware limitations of the EP30. The Samsung 1400, like the Toshiba EP35 and XE1, will allow TrueHD and DTS HD MA to be sent directly over HDMI. In fact it's the only way to hear a full DTS HD MA soundtrack since it doesn't offer internal decoding except for the DTS "core". | | | First registered: February 15, 2002 | | | Last edited: by Nexus the Sixth |
