| Posted: | | | | I see this for months now $150 or less for a blu-ray drive. I don't understand why they can't do a cheap player for your TV. | | | Last edited: by Randall_Lind |

A stand alone player is memory, boards, or simply put, almost a PC. | | | Signature banned: Reason out of date... |

| Posted: | | | | So is everything else. I bet if they really wanted Blu-Ray to take off they would make a sub $200 player. This is why Blu-Ray is slow at taken off.
Disc price + Player. The blu-ray disc is falling so why not the players? Our only hope is for Walmart to demand one. | | | Last edited: by Randall_Lind |

| Posted: | | | | Magnavox rocks as far as tv's go only brand I will buy they just keep going. I just read Sony is going to introduce a $200 player sometime in 2009 with the Blu-Ray 2.0 spec. So maybe I will just get a upconvert player for now. |

| Posted: | | | | I ordered this drive and it should be in today. Once DVDP can accept disc IDs from Blu-ray disc, I can start uploading the ones that I have. |

Do you need a High Def Monitor for full 720/1080i or will a standard LCD monitor work? I know PowerDVD has a Blu-Ray player software. You need software to watch blu-ray disc. |

| Posted: | | | | Most PC monitors are easily capable of displaying an HD image (the maximum HD resolution is currently 1920x1080 - if your monitor can show that or higher, then it'll be fine). The problem will be because of copy protection, you may need to get a graphics card and a monitor with HDMI connectors.
Edit: if memory serves me right, PC monitors are naturally progressive, so 720/1080p would probably be the default. | | | Last edited: by northbloke |

You need software to watch blu-ray disc. It all depends on your video card and how it handles HDCP. For example, my Blu-ray drive (the same Lite-on) won't output to my monitor because it uses DVI. However, if I use the HDMI adapater and output to my HDTV, it works flawlessly. I would advise that you upgrade the PowerDVD software it comes with to 8.0, since the 7.0 software seemed to give me a ton of problems, whereas 8.0 Ultra worked perfectly. As for a cheaper player, I would expect to see a sub-$200 player for Black Friday, with a likely $250 or less price for the Christmas season. |

| Posted: | | | | I have never been one to watch movies on my computer when I can watch them on my 55" HD tv. However, it was a small let down when Power DVD would not play a Blu-ray disc because my LG 22" monitor did not support DHCP. I have a dual monitor set up, so I was hoping to have DVDP on one monitor and the credits on the other to profile Blu-ray disc. I can still pull the disc IDs though. |

I am in the same boat friend give me a hp that didn't work I fixed it and then brought a XFX Geforce 8600GT I didn't know anything about hdcp until yesterday in fact. I spent $115 on the card - my $30 rebate which I just got after 4 months. On my list of upgrades for this pc is memory and a bigger hard drive. If I ever build another PC I will know to get an hdcp card. Update: Your Monitor needs to support HDCP also? That sucks by the time I upgraded my PC hardware I could have a Blu-Ray player for my TV. | | | Last edited: by Randall_Lind |

| Posted: | | | | I have the option of hooking up my monitor to my graphics using a VGA cable, and it will show the Blu-ray movie at standard definition. What I cannot understand is why not just down convert the video to 480P and out put it over the DVI connection.
What I will probably do is hook up the monitor using both a DVI connection and a VGA connection and mirroring the image so Windows will see each port on the graphics card as a separate monitor. Then just switch back and forth when I profile a Blu-ray movie. |
