| Posted: | | | | If there's a feature I'd like to see added, it would be to be able to add to my on-line collection without necessarily needing my computer. I travel a lot but I don't have a laptop and I often buy DVDs when I'm out of town. I'd like to be able to log into Invelos (at an internet cafe, for example) where I can see my collection and then add the DVDs that I just bought without needing my computer to do it. Then, when I get home, I can sync my computer again with Invelos and get an update.
This is almost getting to the model of an on-line service but there would be advantages of this as it would then be cross-platform (No more complaints from the Mac users or even Linux users out there).
What do you think? |

Sorry I saw that but got distracted by the rest of his post.

I haven't seen an internet cafe that povides computers yet. Plenty of hot spots, but you bring your own.
Might be a good use for something like GoToMyPC.com.You can create a virtual clone of your home machine there and access it from say and internet cafe or any other place you can access a computer, some hotels I know provide computers now.You work just like you were on your home system, which means you can add to your collkection, etc, then you can sync upo when you get home.

| Posted: | | | | Intersting idea, space. I would guess they are around over here, but I haven't seen them...yet. My first thought about this would be security. I know that is one my wife's concerns about GoToMyPC, she provides all of her employees with laptops. If the internet cafe was not secure or had been hacked, perhaps GoToMyPC could be compromised and hence your home computer when you synced up. It would seem to me that any site such as a hotel, internet cafe or any other location which provides computers for customer usage would be a tempting target for a hacker.
They claim to be totally secure, using multiple levels of security, But I wonder if a hacker might have installed a keyboard logger in the cafe computers. Oh well.

Oh well. Right, I won't use them anyway, but for a few people which have not enough money for a PC and an internet connection it is the only way to use the internet. I think it is nice for searching around (jobs, news etc.) but personally I would NEVER use them to log-in to ANY personal account like bank, mail, ebay or invelos. Too much risk that personal informations could fall in the wrong hands. That's the reason why I wouldn't use such a feature like bytowner requested. | | | Last edited: by SpaceFreakMicha |

| Posted: | | | | internet cafes with computers are quite common, at least in Europe. Before I had my laptop I used them quite a lot. Of course not for online banking or things like that. Since I have a laptop, I don't even have to go out of most of the hotels I visit, as theygeneraly have WIFI available. | | | Unfortunately, I can't use DVDprofiler at the moment due to lack of a Windows computer. |

| Posted: | | | | I like the idea - not just for internet cafes, but for people who have access to the internet at work but who aren't allowed to install Profiler to a work PC. It'd be great if I could add my lunchtime shopping to Profiler in the afternoon, then simply sync up when I got home. |

| Posted: | | | | Buy a PDA or SmartPhone and use PocketProfiler? Just seem like to many security issues to me, I am not interested in any of my data fallin into hands of other than those I allow.Definitely not a feature I would be interested in or would be willing to use. I would do one of two things, continue using my laptop when I am on the road, it is secure or use a PDA with PocketPro, which I think i could also safely secure, but i don't have one...yet. | Posted: | | | | Why are you going on about security? The idea is to add titles to your online collection without the need of the program. You can then add it to your local collection at a later time when you have access to the program. Unless of course you're saying that the online database or the Invelos website isn't secure... |

The level of naievte is astounding. Let's see machines can be hacked unless you are carefu. At an internet cafe, it would be very easy for a hacker to install a keyboard logger, in effect watching over your shoulder everything you type, perhaps you don't object to that idea, but i do. That is security. Apparently the Chinese are gearing up for the Olympics and their CIA is getting ready as well, to hack computers of visitors that use the hotel Wi-Fis, to explore them for interesting data to them, and perhaps even malicious little bugs that will then transfer to their network when they return home and maybe they can gather data from their employer. Security is the name of the game in computers, if you aren't conscious of it...you lose. Skip | | | ASSUME NOTHING!!!!!! CBE, MBE, MoA and proud of it. Outta here

| Posted: | | | | And you think using a laptop over a public wireless network is any better? And I don't know what kind of internet cafes you have over there, but over here they are usually a lot better protected than the average home PC! The point is you're insinuating that this idea would increase the security risk, whereas there is no increase at all. |
