| Posted: | | | | I'd like to have a simple way to track the disks I have sold or traded. It would be great to have a "SOLD" tab next to the Owned, Ordered, and Wish List. |

Simply for curiosities reason could you explain? Possibly to prevent the user from making the same purchase again? | | | My WebGenDVD online Collection |

Simply for curiosities reason could you explain? I'm with you, neill. I keep trying to figure this out, once it is out of my collection I don't care anymore, everytime see these requests I keep wondering are we tracking a library or running a small business of some sort, also if those who haven't read the article in my signature you will find that I have the same feelings towards loaning my valuable library out to anyone...why? I spent lots of money assembling it and i want to loan a valiable to some friend who may very well trash my property. I must be missing something, I sure don't get it. Skip | | | ASSUME NOTHING!!!!!! I think it is a holdover from my days in the Video Rental Business and seeing what customers would do to my inventory, not always deliberately. I could tell you what of electronics you had in your system simply by seeing the damage done to the media.

Strange friends you're having where you have to fear that they will do harm to your DVDs. I for myself gladly lend my DVDs to my friends and never had any problems with it. I like to give them the chance to see movies and TV series they would otherwise probably never watch. And then to have the chance to have discussions about those movies/TV series. I agree with Skip. In the VHS days I used to loan my tapes to any of my friends who asked. I had a good size collection and often had very odd films that my friends wanted to see. On many occasions I received tapes back with stains on the cases, no case at all and in one instance the clamshell with no film and a person telling me I loaned it to him that way. When I moved to DVD, I vowed I would no longer loan. I have made a few exceptions over the years and in one case got back a damaged disc and case. Therefore, I normally refuse to loan. My opinion is this, "I paid for my copy you cheap bastard, you can do the same." As for tracking traded or sold, I can see the use. What if it was a terrible movie and you traded or sold it. You drop a note on it and then are not tempted to buy it again when it hits the 2.99 bargain bin. Also it would allow you if you were dieing to see it to call your friend you traded it to and maybe trade it for something else or buy it back. |

| Posted: | | | | I have two reasons to keep track of DVDs I had once owned and have sold or traded in (by traded in I mean taking them to Princeton Record Exchange or Tunes and getting credit which I use to buy other ones). As the kids get older the jay-jay discs go out and the hannah montana ones come in.
1) So I know what I once had, a history of what I used to own. Like taking a picture of a fish before you throw it back.
2) So friends can see what I used to own so they can ask if it would be good for their kids or if we liked the movie.
After some good advice from 8ballMax I am using the tagging system for now, but it still would be nice if I could just flag them and move to SOLD.
I love this program by the way. I have about 2000 DVDs and this has made it much easier to keep up to date than my old access database. |

| Posted: | | | | Currently I have over $45K invested out of pocket in my collection. Now I am not saying that I never loan out a film, but it is very rare. I thhink the article in my signature sums it up best, I Am Not Blockbuster. I I also don't ask to borrow from any of my friends. Not to mention beyond potential damage to the discs, if your friend(s) decide that they want to rip your disc, which is a violation of the law that Hollywood takes a very dim view of, at the point they create the copy the owner can be held just a liable legally as the person(s) doing the copying. To me it juts isn't worth it to risk not only my assets, but the legal liability as well, which is not insubstantial. I don't copy and I won't risk mine being copied.

(...) While I do not know the US law that well, I can't believe this. Where I live this is definitely not the case. I may loan my discs to anybody I want and can't be held liable for what they do. BTW. Copying a loaned disc for private purposes falls under fair use here. |

| Posted: | | | | I love to loan. But I can't find anyone who can follow my three simple rules. 1) Only take a reasonable amount at any one time. 2) Only keep them for a reasonable amount of time. 3) Bring them back in the same condition they were in when you got them. Almost no one can follow 2 and/or 3, so they're not invited to borrow anything again. I even had one guy at work who I was sure would be a great loaner. Older guy, beautiful home kept in perfect condition, a car he takes to car shows and worships, his own 800 DVD collection, neat freak, etc. So I lent him King Kong on HD DVD when he first got his player. And he returned it the following Monday with scratches and gouges in the case. I couldn't believe it. So no one really borrows my movies anymore. Except my wife's friends. She'll loan out kids movies and that's the last we see of them. At least she only loans out the crap movies our kids have grown out of. | | | Get the CSVExport and Database Query plug-ins here. Rho: Since you have no expertise in this area and i DO...I have seen the cases and in some cases I have been witness, I have also been the subject of subpoena for my customer list as part of an investigation of my members because one of them was caught; and I was told by corporate to co-operate. Is it worth it...no to me. And you have a TWO step process here in the First you will have the copyright violation (criminal) for which the penalty can be $250,000 and/or 5 years in jail per incident. Then once you are through with that you will then face the copyright violation (civil) at which time the Studios will sue to recover damages. I don't pretend to know how the law operates in your part of the world, don't prtetend to know that of which you know nothing in this part of the world. Skip | | | ASSUME NOTHING!!!!!!
