1. Does anyone have a suggestion for an inexpensive barcode/UPC hand-held scanner to quickly enter the UPC info?
  2. Also any consideration to adding the ability to use a hand-held scanner to physically inventory a DVD collection and match it to their DVD Profiler collection?  I'm thinking interactive scanning the DVD directly into the program and getting a report on any unscanned/missing DVDs.

I'd be interested in other's thoughts on this concept.

Ummm...barcode scanners are currently supported by DVD Profiler. I use a CueCat.

I believe there is already plugin available that will allow one to physically inventory a DVD collection.

You can also try the UPC Filter plugin (download here). It will allow you to flag all the barcodes you scan in. You can then do a "Invert Flags" to see which ones you didn't scan. It also has the option to create a txt file of all the UPC's that you scanned but it didn't find in your collection.

This method works very well. I do it once a year and it takes me about a day to run through the whole collection. (Granted, I also open every case/box to check that all the discs are there).

Sorry, it seems the file is no longer there ... not sure why ... and my googling hasn't turned up a new location yet. I have a local copy that I can e-mail if you wish.

Ps good answer, but not this question.    I shouldn't post before my first coffee.

Hmmm, yes, that one is there indeed.  But we are actually looking for the UPC Filter plug-in that creates a dockable window to filter the collection based on UPC. (It works almost like the Alt-F10 function, but on steroids.)

The UPC Filter was developed by user tlevel. Perhaps you can PM him and ask him where to download it.
