| Posted: | | | | OK, I moved to Canada 14 months ago, bought a cheap DVD Player locally and hacked it to play all my Region 2 disks.....
14 months on, DVD player is starting to fall apart, well it was cheap so I'm not too worried.
I'm starting to look around for a replacement and am really struggling to find something I like - I was toying with getting a Multi Disc system so that I could just load up all our favourites and sit back.
Does anyone have any idea on where I can get a reasonable Multi Region DVD Player, single disc or multi. All advice very welcome.
Thanks | | | To Err is human, to really louse things up takes a Computer...... |

| Posted: | | | | If you're looking for quality region-free DVD players, HKFlix stock quite a few here from various makers, which are mostly customized. They have some multi-disc players from Panasonic and Pioneer, and high-end players from Denon and others. You can also always check for codes to unlock players to become region-free here: http://www.videohelp.com/dvdplayers | | | Corey | | | Last edited: by Katatonia |

| Posted: | | | | Many DVD players can be unlocked (made region-free) very simply (e.g. by pressing a code on the remote). So I wouldn't concentrate too much on getting it multiregion out of the box. More important is whether it can be unlocked easily. Google is your friend... Having said that: Oppo offers very good value for money, when it comes to DVD players. Here's how to unlock their midrange model. | | | Last edited: by dee1959jay |

One good source for remote hacks is VideoHelp.com. Quote: Having said that: Oppo offers very good value for money, when it comes to DVD players. Also what he said. Only Best Rated is a Canadian reseller of Oppo products. I bought my DV-983H from them and had no problems. If you're located in the Toronto area you can even do local pickup and save on shipping. Now... if you're interested in getting a Blu-ray player you may want to wait a little bit, as Oppo will be bringing out their BDP-83 player relatively soon. I've heard February speculated as the release month. Now, there's no guarantee that the BDP-83 will be able to be made region free, but since it's Oppo it's a decent chance it will. It may be worth waiting just in case, as it could potentially save a bit of money as well as shelf space. Provided you're in the market for a Blu-ray player as well. | Posted: | | | | Thanks for all the advice - I've looked at the Oppo and it does look good, DivX is important so the 980 is looking good, reasonable price and upconverting which is a bonus | | | To Err is human, to really louse things up takes a Computer...... |

| Posted: | | | | Here's a review of that one. Unlocking the 980 works the same as with the 981. Good luck! | | | Last edited: by dee1959jay |
