I don't know about you, but I don't consider the slip case or similar packaging that is holding together several movies a DVD within itself. In other words, a boxed set trilogy is only three movies, not four.

However, that is exactly how it shows up in the Collection List with "Total DVDs: #" being equal to all combined profiles including the boxed set in the list that is nothing more than the box and no DVD at all.

My suggestion is to either change the words to "Total Profiles: #" or, better yet, add an option that, when checked, does not include any profiles in the total that have child profiles in them. An option rather than an outright change would solve the issue without making a different group upset.

Yes, I know. I use it already for some things.

However, that feature does not have any connected effect to my request.

Correct, mike. But...then how do you deal with it. That is up to the user. Personally the way I handle it depends on what i am dealing with, if i am handling a Boxset of MOVIES, the Boxset gets no collection number, the individual movies do, if i am dealing with a TV series it's the exact opposite, the parent gets the collection number but not the individual children.

Oh gosh, good question mike. I consider ONE TV Season to be much closer to a movie (ignoring the length)    . An argument could be made for both to be handled the same way or some other way. It is the closest I can come to achieving a consistent objective of counting TITLES, and not discs.I am somewhat scared of the concept of Ken adding a Disc count to each title, though i think it's a good idea, I am not at sure I want to know the answer.

That does make more sense! I might have to think about this one for myself.

For what it's worth, this is how I do it as well and for the exact same reason.  The only exception is a complete series in one case.  For those, I number the single season parent as I treat each season as a single entity.
No dictator, no invader can hold an imprisoned population by force of arms forever.
There is no greater power in the universe than the need for freedom.
Against this power, governments and tyrants and armies cannot stand.
The Centauri learned this lesson once.
We will teach it to them again.
Though it take a thousand years, we will be free.

On the other hand... I number all the parent profiles and none of the child profiles. I like to know the number of items I purchased. So even a complete series set like Twilight Zone: The Complete Definitive Collection... even though it is 5 seasons and 28 discs... it counts as 1 when numbered... or something like Back to the Future: The Complete Trilogy... even though it is 3 movies on 3 discs it counts as 1 when numbered. Because in both cases it is only 1 item I bought.

I use Tags to differentiate between boxsets or not, movies or not, and what 'series' the profile is part of.  It seems to work fairly well.

I have the same opinion. For me, only movies have importance, packaging not at all. So, in my local database, I have no boxset, no parent profiles, no child profiles... When movies are sold in a boxset, I just ignore it and make a specific profile for each movie, with, if necessary, fake covers.
