| Posted: | | | | I don't know how DVDP is put together but, I would like to be able to change the key that the UPC is based on to something else. For example, right now most everything you do in DVDP is keyed to the collection number. I would like to be able to change that to the slot number. If you organize your collection by slot number instead of collection number this would be very helpful. For instance each time you add a new DVD to your database it will look for the first open slot instead of the first open collection number. This would also give you control and visability over the additional/extra discs in your collection. All the discs that are given slot numbers will now be viewable, searchable, filterable, loanable, etc. in the Collection List. Right now you can only see additional discs within your collection in the Disc Info window unless it's a Box Set. The slot number cataloging should also be optional in case you don't want to track that particular second or third disc in the set. |

| Posted: | | | | I think what you're asking for is the ability to sort by location. which you currently can do. Right click on the profiles, hover over the Sort By menu, and select Location, Slot. Then you can see gaps in your collection if you also are viewing the Location information. |

I tried that but, because only the first slot and location are keyed to the collection number, that does not work. If you have a 2 disc DVD in your collection and the 2 disc set is in collection number XX, each disc in the same location, with disc 1 Main Feature in slot 24 and Bonus Materials disc 2 in slot 25, you will only ever see, and be able to sort the disc 1 in slot 24. You will not be able to see slot 25 because it is just disc info for collection number XX. Perfect example of the problem, thanks. |

| Posted: | | | | I think what Skip was trying to say is that the collection number is NOT the key in the database. The actual key is one of three values: EAN + locality Disk ID A sequential key for manual entries With regards to your request, I would recommend you try to rephrase it to state what you would like to do instead of what should be changed in the program. From what I have been able to read from your post, the use cases you are looking for are: 1) Be able to loan out individual disks instead of full profiles (I guess this could be useful for watched status as well, though I do not use this feature so it might already be there without me knowing) 2) View a list of discs ordered by location - including all discs for a profile. As I do not know why you want to do 2) I can't guess if for example a report would do, or if you really need it in the list where we currently see profiles. Again: specify what you want to do with the list, not just how you want it to be. This allows other users to come up with potential alternative ways to do what you want - and it allows the developer (Ken in this case) to come up with the best solution even if it happens to be done in a way you had not considered. Neither of these would require the key in the database to change - it's just a more fine grained loan tracking and another view on the data for the list. In case you wonder what the EAN is it's the correct term for what DVD Profiler refers to as the UPC. Stranglely enough the European Article Number is the global standard while the Universal Product Code is just a regional subset of these codes. | | | Regards Lars | | | Last edited: by lmoelleb |

I guess the latter is in the same league as the World Series. | | | Hans |

| Posted: | | | | I'm not sure but what I think the OP may be asking for is instead of the collection number being filled in semi-automatically, that it can be transferred to the "slot" field instead - hopefully as an option. That combined with each disc getting their own number (as opposed to each profile). In a way, automising the personalisation of profiles for those who keep their collection in binders/sleeves. |
