| Posted: | | | | I have a friend that works for a local Best Buy. He called me Sunday morning around 11:30 to tell me the manager is tired of all the open box product in the store and that it was all half off the open box price. So my wife, son and I run down there. As I get get into the parking lot he sends me a message that I need to hurry because he is only doing it till noon. I run in and start looking at the TV looking for a 40-46" LCD. Couldn't find one. My wife comes in and starts to look around for a TV. She came across this one http://www.hitachi-homeelectronics.us/tv/products/plasma_hdtv/details/P50S602.htmlso in a frantic I bought it. Taking it home I find out that it's a plasma. I had heard that they have had problems but not sure if they still do. I know thay are easier to get burnin but is there anything else I should be concerned about? I can't complaine i guess. After tax I only paid $700. I use to be really up on new technology but as I get older I find it harder to keep up. And what sucks even more is I'm only 28. Anyways any help you guys can give I would appreciate it. | | | Last edited: by DRAYCHRISPEN |

| Posted: | | | | Holy Guacamole Batman! What a deal . I've got a Panasonic Viera 42" 1080p Plasma and love it. As far as burn-in goes, it can still occur if you're not careful. My Plasma comes with some system tools to help avoid it, i.e., a White Bar that will pan across the screen to erase ghost images and programable pixel orbiting. I've had it for about 4 months now and no problems as of yet. They do tend to run a little hot so don't worry about that. Just make sure it's well ventilated. Mine comes with internal fans. They aren't loud enough to distract unless you're sitting a couple of feet from the set. Other than that...enjoy! You can't beat the picture quality of a Plasma compared to LCD. | | | My WebGenDVD online Collection |

I know thay are easier to get burnin but is there anything else I should be concerned about? no problems nowadays. I have a 42" plasma and it's superb picture - much better than LCD. And the problem with burn in was something that was around at the beginning but not nowadays. forgot to mention - you need to ensure that you have the best quality picture going in - so go for a blu ray player which will a) play blu rays dvds and b) upscale normal dvds to 1080P as well. Also, for the TV (not dvd) picture try and get the best quality input (hdmi). It's no good having a good tv and then giving it a scart image. | | | Paul | | | Last edited: by pauls42 |

| Posted: | | | | unless you posted the wrong model number, your set is LCD, not plasma. Still a great price though! http://reviews.cnet.com/flat-panel-tvs/hitachi-p50s602/4505-6482_7-33192358.html |

http://reviews.cnet.com/flat-panel-tvs/hitachi-p50s602/4505-6482_7-33192358.html making it a link cnet reviewNow which is more likely correct - Hitachi ? or CNet about a Hitachi set? It's so difficult to judge.. no - I'll go with Hitachi. (Perhaps you missed that the OP gave a link to the Hitachi website and not any model number?) And in fact he said when he got it home it was plasma.. | | | Paul | | | Last edited: by pauls42 |

| Posted: | | | | Thanks for your help guys. Yea its a great TV and I love it. Im looking into a Blu Ray but the wife wants to mount it to the wall and run the wires through the wall first. I have 2 400 disc sony players that have hdmi outputs but I have them in the componant hook up. I know the hdmi is better. I put the players in progresive scan. That is the best way to have it right? When watching a dvd the tv says it's 480p I don't know about that cnet link. Sometimes they call it an LCD and sometimes they call it a Plasma | | | Last edited: by DRAYCHRISPEN |

http://reviews.cnet.com/flat-panel-tvs/hitachi-p50s602/4505-6482_7-33192358.html CNET's review is wrong. It is a Plasma HDTV. If you click on Specifications in CNET's review, you'll see that is Plasma . | | | My WebGenDVD online Collection |

oh and BTW this is still on.. This Telly would do that upgrading just fine itself... "The all new PictureMaster™ HD VI video processor found in the P50S602 not only provides the best film playback possible but also upgrades all incoming signal to match the Full HD1080P panel and ensures outstanding picture quality regardless of input type or resolution format." All new flatscreens have some kind of scaler. If you have a crt with capability without a scaler you could benefit from an external one. | | | We are all at the same age, only at different time... |
