For we Blackberry users, the Windows Mobile version of DVD Profiler doesn't offer us much solace.  Believe me, if there was a Blackberry version, I'd be the first one buying it.

And for anyone without an iTouch/Phone web browser, the Online Profiler - well - it's very uncomfortable to use.  Even Opera Mini - while very capable - is uncomfortable

My suggestion is a MOBILE FRIENDLY view of My Online Profiler.

The problem with the CURRENT view are two fold:

One - it uses framesets.  Great for desktop web browsing - unpleasant for mobile browsing.

Two - the frames being used are NOT populated using "end user" capturable means for someone in the community to create a "scraper/reformatting" solution.  This might have been done intentionally - but more likely as a byproduct of ASP.net's love of non-standard practices

In English - the current website cannot be "user massaged" into something usable on mobile (believe me - I'm a professional, and I've tried).

Instant gratification would be to simply change the means of passing user data to the frames - instead of using ASP sessions - use POST/GET so we, the community, can call the framesets on our own using our own credentials.  Once we can have access to the frame content, we can scrape and reformat to present mobile friendly data.  This would be pretty easy and quick and would not affect anything existing to the end user.

The other option?  Do a full mobile implementation of the My Online Profiler site - using proper mobile screen resolutions and attention to mobile detail (or etiquette).

I would be happy to assist in any way possible with this project - I believe in "asking, but with productive suggestions".

Here is my suggestion for a mobile site:

1) The Main Screen

A simple, more mobile friendly url passes in user ID:  i.e http://m.invelos.com/d.aspx/<username>

The screen might look something like this:

2) Detail Screen

Condensed, brief view that might look something like this:

I believe these screens would load and look good on pretty much ANY browser - from the Nintendo DSi all the way to the Blackberry.

Anyone else down for something like this?

Again, with some information and knowledge from the development side, I'd be happy to assist in writing this code.

(Oops, now I see you wanted a view of the online - not the local.    Sorry, but I'll leave my post just in case.)

This is available:

HTML Smartphone view

and this:

HTML PC View

Sample scripts that come with plugin DVDProfileLoop: here.

If you are a programmer, you can make your own script, either running under DVDProfileLoop or using XSLT running on the exported XML. See any post by "mithi" for a link to some helpful tools that he has made for doing this.

I know the iPhone is popular, but the BlackBerry Curve is the No 1 selling Smartphone in the world currently and according to this New York Times article 3 of the top 5 selling smartphones are BlackBerries!!!

I own a BlackBerry Curve and  I can do almost everything on my Berry except access DVDProfiler!!!  A DVDProfiler Application is currently #1 on my BB App wishlist, I can't think a more perfect marriage!!!

While a Blackberry App would be ideal (as this is the dominant software phone platform in North American even more so than the iPhone -however iPhone has a better developer income stream at the moment), a mobile friendly tool set would be highly desirable.

I managed to play around with the DVDProfileLoop plugin and generate some simple HTML that would work for mobile browsers -but unfortunately I do not have time to develop a real application to do things properly.  Too much of my time is spent designing and developing telecom stuff to keep those crazy mobile phones working for my day job

Don't know if you noticed, but there is a ready-made script installed with the plugin. There is also another one posted by a user in the DVDProfileLoop thread. But I agree, that's the hard way. I finally just got one of those free Smartphone deals and purchased Mobile Profiler. Saved lots o' time!

Thanks mediadogg - I did notice the script (which I modified for my use) and greatly appreciated the very nifty plugin. I modified to reformat the output to get things to work a bit better for my blackberry (and to my taste) but as we both agree this is pretty much the hard way.

I just started using DVDProfiler as I have been using spreadsheets and and more recently dvdaf.com  It was the plugins and database features that got me to switch over after long hunting for the best way to manage my collection.

My typical problem is that when I am out DVD bargain hunting sometimes I may not remember if a title is part of a boxset or more commonly I can't remember which version of a title that I have  --especially with all of these crazy re-release double dips from the studios.

Right now I use the blackberry amazon app to check some things but would prefer someway to check my collection and my friends collections quickly via my phone.  Right now we use dvdaf.com and it renders horribly on mobile devices.

I would BEG that the online invelos.com/DVDCollection.aspx/USERNAME version should be updated to NOT HAVE frames and to be more mobile/bandwidth friendly.

Not even close, their global market share is around 20%. Their market share in North America is 52% though.

So if invelos really wan't to develope software for a new platform, the correct answer is Symbian.

I stand corrected, does appear that my New York Times articles seems to be US market oriented!!!  Symbian (Nokia) continues to maintain the edge worldwide (51%) in Smartphone sales!!!

My site generator which, design-wise, looks similar to darkuni's request is almost ready to go. Please message me if anyone is interested in testing/trying it out.  You will need Java installed on you machine (Most people already do) in order to run this.  I built it on Java 1.6 and have not (And won't) tested it on older versions.  I need to do a bit more testing and throw some instructions together, then I'll release it.

Cheers,
Rob
