| Posted: | | | | Most changes only affect the particular profile they were made on, but if someone adds a birth year or changes capitalization for cast and crew, it affects every profile that person is credited for. For instance, I just found Vivian Wu was listed as "VIVIAN WU" in my DB. Since she was only on three profiles, it didn't take long to track it down. Lance Henrickson, however, is listed in 31 profiles in my DB and somehow gained a birth-year, even though he isn't on the approved list. Figuring out the source of this error would be much more troublesome. We need some way to scan all credits for an actor and check for disagreements with the main DB. Right now, all we can do is click submit on each one and see if any changes show. |

| Posted: | | | | I think a lot can be achieved on making the CLT case-sensitive. Since it's a database query, I think it should be possible. | | | View my collection at http://www.chriskepolis.be/home/dvd.htm

I think ALL changes should only affect the profile they were made on. Unfortunately the current system is set up like a very effective virus... Sometimes you'll be spreading it without even knowing it. Good descrip0tion, kinoniki. While I never used the virus analogy. I have talked about the shortcomings of bioth the By data and the common name issues for a veryt long, and now the Global changes. When you tie all of these things together the Online database can be very effectively compromised by a few users or even just one. I keep preaching documentation and sources for data, and i will continue to preach about them and to set an example for all. I will also continue to vote No tio global changes or data which is nott adequately documented, to those who don't all I can say is that you are as guilty as the contributor fopr the damage which has been done and is continuing to be done. | Posted: | | | | We also need to be trace back to the original data. Too many people are propagarting bad BY data just because someone erroneously got the data into the Db. We have no way of knowing where the data came from or what the Documentation was , or if there was any.
Now speaking for myself, I NEVER simply propoagate BY data or Common Name data without including documentation each and every time the data is submitted. I simply do not understand why more people don't or why some people even refuse to disclose their research, or why such data is even allowed. But that's me
