A google search shows that DVD Profiler is essentially the only place to use the term "HD Slim." I only found one other reference using it the way we do. We need to use standard terminology. Honestly, no other place I've found even makes the distinction. We don't distinguish between the widths of regular DVD keep cases, so I don't see why we do it with HD. Also, we really need digibook in the list.

I thought THINpak was a distinction of DVD case width?!

Okay, there is that one, but no distinction of double-wide keep cases or anything. If HD Slim was replaced by HD THINpack, that woudl be fine, but using non-standard terminology to refer to what the public and most other sites think is a regular case as slim isn't good policy.

Regular case in the US perhaps, not in Europe where they come in both manners.

Indeed they do. In the UK, the cases that Ace_of_Sevens describes as "regular case" are practically unknown.

To me the distinction between "HD Keep Case" and "HD Slim Case" is precise and clear, and I absolutely don't want to see this changed in the Profiler.

Completely agree with Tigi. Whilst I do have a few UK releases in slim cases, it's probably no more than 6 or so in a collection of over 200 HD releases. There definitely needs to be a distinction between the two different sizes IMHO.

I have to agree. And if profiler has chosen to given a name to case to be able distinguish it for users, so what. If profiler is the only place using  it...again, so what. It is something that has been used by Profiler now for awhile and i think the users understand it, changing to something else would cause more confusion. This is DVDProfiler and many of the things in Profiler are defined BY Profiler for Profilers users and have no necessary connection to someone else and what they might believe to be a definition Ace. Keep Case for example has one definition for our purposes, but in reality consists of several different case types by different manufacturers, each with their own name for the Case, should we Amaray and whatever else and if so, what does that add for the user, information wise, probably not very much, but it would certainly lead to user confusion and more fights in the Forums. HD Slim is just fine, thank you very much. It is a different type of case from a ThinPak. Do we need to add FatCase for multiple discs, again I don't see a need and what would Fat Case really mean, how many Discs make a Fat Case and is there an ObeseCase. The whole case issue can become very complex, Ken has kept it simple, for deliberate reasons. Even so we have users who <gasp> just could not simply rest with Keep Case but had to have ThinPak, then could not rest Custom but HAD to have Steelbook, now we can't use Custom, we have to have Digibook. And yes Digibooks are different from Digipaks. Even now with Digibooks SEEMING to become more commonly used, there are less than 50 titles in Digibook form, Steelbooks are still relatively uncommon and something less than 500 titles (much less). I sometimes think that what should be done is that Custom should be a user-definable field, that would not be Contributable per se, but would allow the user to personally define these relative oddballs and if the user uploaded his collection we would all be able to see what he called a particular case type under Custom.

BTW I believe the Steelbook phenomena first started in Europe and migrated West. An irrelevant point but one for Trivia specialists, interesting  things do not always start in the US. I also presume that Steelbooks are in more common usage in Europe but even so as a percentafge of the 400,000+ total still a tiny percentage.

No, I think we are fine for the moment in Case types, and that Digibook should be added. But things are often defined by Profiler for Profiler and what and just like Common Names what something might be called elsewhere is a big ho-hum, we also are not concerned with "real" names.

We shoudl at least add HD THINpack. But again, the term HD Slim si used nwhere outside DVD Profiler. I don't think the program should make up its own terms for cases as it causes confusion.

Same here. I've never had any problems identifying which case is thicker than the other!

No, Ace, the change would cause the confusion. One of the big problems that you have is that you don't stick around. You come and then you disappear for months, things happen whole you are gone and you cannot offer any input until; afterwards and at that point it is TOO LATE. If you want to impact the program, Ace, then stick around and don't try and change things which were established in your absence to YOUR standard after the fact.

Makign it clear to forum rats shouldn't be the goal. It should be clear fromt he get go. I also fail to see how adding HD THINpack would make things more confusing.

Are there any HD releases that come in a HD ThinPak case then? They would have to be different from the existing ThinPak which is available. If it's the same, surely we'd just keep to using that.

Yes, the Matrix, Batman and Austin Powers sets. They're different than the existing thinPacks because they have a Blu-ray banner.

Thanks! Just looked up the Batman Anthology on Blu-ray.com and they do indeed appear to be Blu-ray variants of the normal ThinPak. In that case I support the addition HD ThinPak (or similar name).

I do still want to keep the split between the HD Keep and HD Slim though.

Forget those appear to me to be no different than say Star Trek which is an HD Slim with a Slip Cover, nor any other such BD title., some using a Slip and some not. So...confusion to appease one user, one who is late to the party.
