| Posted: | | | | There are a bunch of contribution standards which have not been incorporated into the rules. (language tracks that only show up with certain language settings, for instance) or are unclear because of ambiguous grammar or because they aren't situations the authors thought of. We are due for a rewrite, I think. |

| Posted: | | | | I'd say a rewrite is long overdue. Many submission rules only exist in the forum since Ken made a statement there. It's time to incorporate these in the rules as we can't expect every user to wade through pages and pages of forum posts.
Moreover, many people, including myself (for Japanese romanization) have submitted suggests for rule updates. Mayeb it's time a decision, positive or negative, on those suggestions is made and those that are accepted be put into the rules. | | | Blu-ray collection DVD collection My Games My Trophies |

| Posted: | | | | I can only go by what was said in the rules committee forum. But it was said that Gerri was working on a rules update to be released. unfortunately this was several months back so I do not know when we may actually see this... or if this is still the case. That only Ken/Gerri can tell us. | | | Pete |

| Posted: | | | | I agree with Pete. NOW is not the time to be concerned about a rules update. We are in the midst of Beta Testing with new features to be digested and so forth, I would expect that while we a Beta Testing some new Rules are being written and will be published in conjunction or shortly after we get a Public Release of the program.
Let's not put the cart before the horse.

| Posted: | | | | I don't see why. I would think the rules should be developed along with the new version. Putting out the program, then trying to figure out what to do with it caused a lot of our current problems. | | | Last edited: by Ace_of_Sevens |

| Posted: | | | | Because, Ace, you made a very general blanket comment, not SPECIFIC, and those of us who do stay here already know that Gerri is working on some form of update...that's why. And as i said if you would stop disappearing for months on end, you would be aware of this as well, and you would have more opportunity to provide input.
Now do you have something more specific than your blanket statement, and even then chances are very high that it has already been addressed.
No one will argue your general statement, but we all know that a Rules update is in process.

| Posted: | | | | Look at any thread in the contributions forum for specifics. Development behind the scenes by someone who isn't a big contributor can lead to problems, as well as the rules need to work with actual movie data.
In particular, the rules need to address essentially everything about subtitles (do burned-in ones count, does the whole movie have to be subtitled, do they have to be menu-selectable or just selectable through some means), how to tell if a track is surround encoded, disc vs. side profiles for TV sets, how to treat Blu-ray + DVD sets (currently we track them as box sets, but that won't be necessary anymore. Do we still do it?), how to distinguish who exactly is part of the cast with puppetteer, band members and the like, what all counts as original media and it could generally be organized much better with each section of rules corresponding to a tab in DVD profiler. |

| Posted: | | | | All of that has been dealt with Ace, some dating back to Intervocative, for example Forced Subs have never been acceptable. But miore importantly an update is coming, everyone knows that, we cannot judge it until such time as we see it and analyze it.
Subtitles are subtitles as defined by the DVD (Menus), Easter Egg subs are Easter Eggs, Forced subs are subs of the movie not the DVD and are not currently dealt with, we would need a way to delineate that sub is forced and not subtitle of the DVD. remeber Ace, while movies and DVDs are inextricably linked, we are DVDProfiler not MovieProfiler, someone can always put together a variety of straw men, such as the current "discussion" about puppeteers, that doesn't mean they are valid.

| Posted: | | | | If I remember correctly, when the last Beta was released, a new set or rules was released...in the rules forum...for discussion. When the beta went live, so did the rules. I am expecting, or hoping, that it will be the same this time around. | | | No dictator, no invader can hold an imprisoned population by force of arms forever.
