| Posted: | | | | I think it maybe a good idea to be able to add gender to cast members.
This could be strictly local or be made contributable.
Documentation could be from their roles and/or from multiple websites.
I have found some cases where people who share the same name are of different genders.
For instance when doing a search on IMDB for Chris Miller I see mostly actors, but I also see at least one actress with that same name.
This maybe useful when photos can't be found and no birth years either to separate them.
Thoughts? |

| Posted: | | | | I don't have a problem with it being added but can see a potential problem.
Let's say it's a person way down in the cast list, they've got no lines so can't be easily picked out. Their character name is something like "Sam". How can you determine what gender they are if they've only been in one film? |

Think about people where only initials are given, or East Asian names, or group names, or animal names, what have you... | | | Hans |

http://www.nndb.com/people/721/000031628/ http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wendy_Carlos http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0137793/ http://www.wendycarlos.com/biog.html Well being that she was born a male and had a sex-change I would go with how she is legally known now. And that looks like female. Sites such as IMDB almost always lists their sex next somewhere in the persons page. Be it bio or filmography. As was pointed out in my OP, this could be something that is kept strictly local. Just thought I'd toss it out there to see if anyone thought it was a good idea. Seems not many do.0 |

Other? Or we've to make the Gender depending on the Production year. Ok, but serious: sometimes helpful, but much work. (I don't think it are much actors/actress that could belong to the group of that need a distinguishing) |

| Posted: | | | | I don't see this as useful. It's just adding another layer to our current, problematic way of disambiguating people. How often do you have two people with the same name but different sexes where you are able to determine both their sexes, but they either have the same BY or you can't find a BY? | | | Last edited: by Ace_of_Sevens |
