| Posted: | | | | I know this has been discussed before but i'd like to put it out yet again.
I recently bought the BR of Seven Samurai, i now own three releases of this film with all 3 having a different credit list. (if i have time i'll go though them and check).
In my opinion a standard credits list which is shared, and voted on, throughout the entire database is not only more accurate but also less time consuming. • Common names (still needed unless we get a better cast/crew member id, but that's another debate) are instantly corrected for all profile of one movie instead of having to rely on individuals having to correct each profile on at the time • Uncredited is added where needed as well, now it's very much possible to have one profile filled with uncredited and another one not having any. Either because of someone not recognizing an actor or not watching the entire movie.
What are your ideas on this, a i missing something which needs us to do the work tens of times instead of just once? Is it near impossible to implement? Or do you agree and hope this will be added soon.
Now: i know that some movies will have different credits (mainly animated films of different versions of a movie) of course those can be checked and voted on on a disc based profile, although it also may be possible to 'link' all director's Cuts of a specific movie to each other having all the fore mentioned advances as well,

| Posted: | | | | One problem I could see is the linking of the profiles to one movie. Same issue as we got now with some CLT results, because of incorrect or not added original titles.
(Still have to think about if I'd like this feature or not) |

| Posted: | | | | It is not impossible, but would entail a complete restructuring of the Online and local DB's (although the online DB would be smaller). A complete change in the contribution system, and a rewrite of the server and client software (for all used platforms).
Plus the DB conversion, I think, would be a complete nightmare. I am not completely sure how that would be done without a LOT of user intervention (unless you truly started from scratch and abandoned all the hard work done over the years)
While I would enjoy this change, I could actually see it being a major undertaking.
And actually, you have it wrong....we have a profile based system. If we had a disc based system, things would be slightly easier (actually discs are rereleased under different upc's) |

I agree with that, and this solution will help nothing for linking of actors (Zhang Ziyi in Movie A will still not link with Ziyi Zhang in Movie B). A far better (and I think easier solution) is a new linking system, without that "common name" which is the main cause of all our problems. To add to VirusPil comment, this solution will not link easily Seven profiles with Se7en profiles... We'll find back with movies' original titles the same problem that we face with actors' names. | | | Images from movies | | | Last edited: by surfeur51 |

| Posted: | | | | Movie based could make some problems.
But when the credits would be shared between all profiles with the same Disc-ID, we would still have some work to do, but it would be *much* less.
Companies like Sony or Universal often release the same Discs in the european area, and a lot of Warner back-catalog Blu-rays are the same discs worldwide.
And this method is pretty save, since different movies could even have the same original title, but a collision between two different discs that have the same Disc-ID is very unlikely. | | | Last edited: by SpaceFreakMicha |

And what about local databases conversions when the new version is implemented ? After all, I'm less and less concerned by online linking, since I decided to no more use it until a new linking system is implemented. But I do not want see all the work done for my local linking destroyed. | | | Images from movies |

| Posted: | | | | Yeah, this would be great. Unfortunately, I think it would be such a major overhaul of the program that I don't really expect it to happen, but truth be told it's probably the only way we're ever going to clean up this database. |

That's always been my biggest concern for this kind of system. The voting system would also need updating so that it should every profile for a specific movie not just the contributed one. I certainly would like to see that as well. Whilst you correct accented names locally, I tend to strip out the various punctuation you get with middle intials and JR. ,JR ,JR. , etc... |

(Thanks, T!M, for saying what I was thinking.) |
