I got a Wi-Fi Blu-Ray player.

I connected to Wi-Fi and am currently downloading an update. It's saying it's going to take 3+ hours to do that.
Isn't that really slow?

Another thing.

Before I started to download the update I tried to play Knight and Day and it looked really weird. I went and setup the aspect ratio to 4:3 Letterbox since I am still using an old 4:3 TV.

No matter, the picture still looked wrong.

I still have my DVD recorder hooked up through my receiver and anamorphic DVDs looks correct through that.

My TV doesn't have any sort of ratio settings, of course. So I know it's the Blu-Ray player.

Will the update correct the ratio problem?
If not,what am I doing wrong here?

What model of player is it? You may be able to DL the update to your computer and put it on a USB drive and make things go much faster.

Update via USB or via CDROM is possible.

Well the update got completed and it shut off and turned itself back on.

And the ratio problem was still there.

So I took out the disc, closed the door and shut off the player. Turned it back on, put the disc back in and now it plays correctly.

I have no idea why that did that, just glad it sorted itself out.

how do you have the player hooked up to your Receiver ?  ..

Thru HDMI,,  Componant, optical ,    RCA jacks,  ??

I hear that Microsoft Essentials is a good easy going 'Security'  program that won't  'hog' your related resources such as (i.e.)  Norton does when  providing  their firewall/spam/ virus protection.

You maybe able to install more Ram  and perhaps a faster Harddrive  which would work quicker for your PC  programs such as  Invelos- DVD Profiler .. 

Check for older used PC's that No one wants to to try and sell /buy because of the todays NEW lower prices.
(Mid $500 for a Really fast Processor speeds of today's models )..

But having said all this .. IF  you do need a good PC ,, you may be able to get the speed you need along with Bluray dvd player and 16 x 9 plasma monitor .. meaning you'll probably not go back to your TV set again for your movies .. and that will defeat the Memorox player.. and it will be sadly  ignored ......

20GB hard drive wow that is ancient .. Are you running windows 98 or XP ??

There are company's out there as well that will sell/rent you a PC that is state of the art- top notch  along with printer/ 16x9 17inch monitor/ keyboard -mouse and wireless  router for maybe $1.05 a day ... is another option..
