| Posted: | | | | I was wondering if it would be possible to amend disc ID child profiles so that they would be specific to the particular Box Set they are for, so when disc's are in more than one Box Set they could be tailored for that particular set. My idea is that the disc ID would be amended with the last 4 digits from the parent profiles EAN Ice Age: 2 Movie Pack 5039036039413 All Regions Released: 03/11/2008 [/DIVLEFT] [DIVLEFT MARGIN="10px"] Ice Age 4DDE3B6218871EF4 All Regions Released: 03/11/2008 Widescreen 1.85:1 Ice Age 2: The Meltdown E926AFEA2D750D09 All Regions Released: 03/11/2008 Widescreen 1.85:1 So the disc IDs would then be 4DDE-3B62-1887-1EF4-9413 E926-AFEA-2D75-0D09-9413 and these profiles would be specific to this Box Set Don't know if this is even possible but was just trying to find a solution to this problem |

| Posted: | | | | The disc ID profiles would be identical except for things like cover and overview. Is it really that much of a problem to justify more database bloat? Personally I always fix those things locally and lock them down. | | | First registered: February 15, 2002 |

Well in this case there is a major difference as the first box set was released as a 2 Blu-ray set but when the third film was released they then did a box set with the 3 films in a combo set so the people who have the 3 film set want to add the DVD info but as the Invelos policy is that first release info takes precedence they cannot. I'm not saying my idea is perfect i was just trying to think of a way around such problems, please feel free to suggest a better idea if you have one | | | Last edited: by ninehours |

Not saying it's a better idea, but it's one that can actually be performed without modifying the program. | | | First registered: February 15, 2002 |

The 2 disc set is a single HD Keep Case that holds the 2 disc's, i don't have the 3 film set but I'm guessing that it is 3 HD Keep Cases in a Slip Case, But i like your idea this would at least allow the people who have the 3 film set to add the DVDs in a simple way that as you say would not need any change to the programme |

| Posted: | | | | I could imagine the very rare case the last digits of the UPC are same, so we would get a limitation of the possibilities again. Let me quote my post from here for my idea: Quoting VirusPil: Quote: The idea is not bad.
I don't know if I ever suggested, but I would go further. I would like to see it possible to make different profiles to one EAN/UPC or Disc Id.
Internal the identifier could be treated with something like this. EAN/UPC.V1 Disc Id.V1 For further profiles the version gets always a number higher: ...V2, ...
The user should be able to choose "make a new version", if the profile in database isn't matching to the version he/she owns.
After an upload there are two profiles for the specified EAN/UPC or Disc Id in database. At an addition over UPC/Disc Id the program gives the choice which should be downloaded, similar to an UPC which is with different localities in database.
With this it would be possible to track re-releases, child profiles used in different box sets, different movies with same EAN/UPC. To be complete I have to add a negative aspect, which I also think could get solved: At adding a new version for the same EAN or disc id at the same time by different users, the screeners have a bit more work to decide if both contributions are for the same version or if they should get different versions. Which would also mean you need to do good contribution note to explain why a new version should be added to the database. You got my yes for a system which would allow different versions because this would be more user-friendly. (No local changes and locks needed) If Invelos wants to decide to add such a feature, they have to decide if it's worth the more of server space needed. |
