| Posted: | | | | I hope that this isn't confusing. So I'll try and describe it as best as I can.
I would like to have where profile updates or comparisons ignore local descriptions.
Let's say that the following is in the main database.
George Willis = Makeup Artist (checkbox)
Now let's say that in my local I also have that too, but I use the descriptive field to enter the exact job title: Such as:
George Willis = Makeup Artist (checkbox) Local Field = Mr. Pitt's Makeup Artist
If that profile is updated and I do a compare before accepting a change that entire field is highlighted as being changed or needs to be updated. Which is only because I have used the descriptive field to enter the actual job title.
So I would like to see the program ignore the local descriptive field all together in the comparison windows. |

| Posted: | | | | I'm not saying it's unsolveable, but:
I think the problem is that the update process of cast and crew is not row-based. It updates as a whole or not at all.
The update doesn't "see" that in row 13 it's the same crew member with an additional description.
It takes the whole block from the online and downloads into the local.
That's why it shows you the difference, because when you accept, your description is gone. | | | Karsten DVD Collectors Online

I frequently use custom roles for crew myself. I don't know how difficult it would be to fix but I think it would be a worthwhile improvement. --------------- |

I thought that this was solved when Ken solved the problem that Custom Crew got overwritten with every update. I live and learn | | | It all seems so stupid, it makes me want to give up! I only once "updated" one of my individualized profiles, and had many weird duplicates in the Art Department section, that I had to clean up manually afterwards. I think what CubbyUps is asking for, is to get the online comparison screen, that you get when contributing. It's striped off the individual role descriptions and non-contributable custom roles. That's exactly what I would need too, to manually incorporate changes. Now we get an "update" comparison screen, with all our individual changes that we have to crosscheck somehow with the online data. I can't see in this screen, if if have checked/associated the same standard roles under the individual role descriptions from the movie credits. It's pretty annoying to have to "contribute" the profile, to see the actual changes, you need to apply to your own profile. It really shouldn't be to complicate to incorporate an option to change between the current local profile screen, and a screen of the local profile as it would be contributed to the online database. So a +1 from me. |

| Posted: | | | | I agree. And I would like to have the same for BYs which are in my local and would not be overwritten anyway, so they don't need to show up in a comparison screen on downloading. | | | Hans |

| Posted: | | | | Oh yeah, local Birth Years would be nice too if there was a way for the program to ignore certain BY's.
Perhaps an additional Ignore Birth Year could be added to the program, right next to the name. |
