When I add a disc by DiscID three outcomes are possible:

1) The disc is not recognized at all. The profile gets added by DiscID and I have to enter the data myself.

2) There is a profile by that DiscID. The profile gets added by DiscID and the profile download starts.

3) There is an UPC profile that contains that DiscID. The profile gets added by UPC and the profile download starts.

The problem is, that case 3) is not made obvious. Unless I explicitely check after the download what the profile ID is there's no hint that the profile wasn't added by DiscID but by UPC.

I'd like to have a warning and a choice to either download by UPC or fall back to case 1).

Please take this as a question for understanding from one who is still baffled by contribution rules and process  :

But, why would you ever want to start from scratch for a DiscID that was known to already be associated with another (valid) profile? I always considered the feature that you mention (#3) as a plus, so I'm curious why it is not good for your purposes?

(And I know that with your skills you could make a plugin to do anything - so I understand that you are proposing what you think would be valuable to have in the product - that's why I'm curious)

(Edit: Ok DJ, thanks for the explanation.)
Thanks for your support.

[Jor-El] The reasons are two. [/Jor-El]

1) I'd like to have my database keys as acurate as possible. If I'm entering by DiscID I have a reason for it. Probably because I don't have a DVD with a UPC. So I'd have to adjust the profile anyway because in all likelyhood it's not a fit even if it is for the same movie

2) Adding a profile by DiscID is (for me) often the case when I add a movie to a box set. So I'm actually going to create a new profile anyway. That way the first releasers can have their UPC based movie profile and the box setters can have their DiscID based box set profile.

I understand that the current feature is a comfort feature, I'd just like to have a little heads-up that DVDP is doing it.
