| Posted: | | | | As I'm auditing some tv series right now I'd find it helpfull to have an identifier for Cast role names as the role names of some/many cast members are not always credited (e.g. "Deadwood" has none at all). With an identifier for this it would be easier to see if the role names are verified by credits itself or another source (audio/subtitles/web) has to be checked to confirm them. |

This is what we have when we leave the rolenames blank, isn't it? When everything is done as it should, the contribution notes would answer the question whether the rolenames came from the credits or from other sources. | | | It all seems so stupid, it makes me want to give up! | Posted: | | | | "When everything is done as it should"... yeah... but I don't think anyone here would list an explanation to every single uncredited role name (no offense meant)... and frankly I don't even insist on that explanation with all the cloning etc... I'd just prefer to have an option to see if the role name was credited or not (for instance while voting on a contribution or while (re-)auditing a profile). |

when thinking about your proposal for a bit longer I see how this could be of some use. But I fear that this would lead to a real flag-orgy with TV-Shows, which (in my experience) only very scarcely have rolenames for the leading cast. | | | It all seems so stupid, it makes me want to give up! | Posted: | | | | Yep, credits without role names are quite common not just in TV shows, but also in old (let's say pre-1960) films. What I usually do in such cases is combine several on-line sources for the role names and mention them in my contribution notes ("Role names from ...x..., ...y... and ...z..."). Mixed cases (with some roles mentioned in the credits and some not) do exist as well, BTW.
In theory, the identifier MakoDeth was asking for should already be present in the contribution notes, however a) this is not very convenient if you're looking for that info; b) not every user will always mention this clearly in his or her contribution notes, so I can see where the OP is coming from. | | | Last edited: by dee1959jay |

| Posted: | | | | You could watch the DVD, that's why I buy them and as you watch them you could pick up on the roles. And you could add head shot for those you don't recognize. | | | We don't need stinkin' IMDB's errors, we make our own. Ineptocracy, You got to love it. | Posted: | | | | With all due respect: having to watch an entire DVD before voting on a contribution or doing a profile (re-)audit is not very practical. And headshots are attached to actors, not to particular roles. |

I have no need of it either as I honestly don't care whether or not the role was listed in the credits. It might also have to do with the fact that, when I do contribute these types of profiles, I list exactly where I got the roles in my notes. | | | No dictator, no invader can hold an imprisoned population by force of arms forever. | Posted: | | | | 9 times out of 10.... other then the main cast for TV series (which is very easily documented)... if it is blank in the credits I just leave it blank in profiler. If someone else wants to find and add the role names more power to them.
I usually don't use multiple sites to determine a role name in these cases because I seen too many slight variations on the name between the sites. Like some sites will have first and last name... other sites just first name. So I just got to the point that I usually don't bother for recurring or guest roles. | | | Pete | | | Last edited: by Addicted2DVD |

I'd like this feature too, but I don't see it as a high priority. It's a feature I probably would make use of if it was available. --------------- |
