| Posted: | | | | While we have 'Country of Origin' for profiles in the database, this only refers to where the pokey little registered office of the film production company is.
I think it would be nice to have a field/section where we can state where the actual movie was made.
An example of this is the movie "Triangle" by Icon Entertainment International which has it's registered office in England (London I think). However the entire film was produced in Australia.
Another example is Iron Sky whose production company is registered in Finland while the movie had a lot of filming in Australia (with a lot of Aust/NZ cast). |

Especially since the one CoO has become three CoO. I have profiles that were updated from "US" to "US, Germany, Italy" because of the production companies but were shot in neither of those countries.

| Posted: | | | | I guess it's also a little bit of patriotism by me especially when I see things like The Matrix movies, I am Legend etc all credited as "USA" in the database when they were made in Australia.... Village Roadshow/Roadshow Entertainment etc is the most successful movie studios outside the USA, and just up the road from me.... |

I think it would be nice to have a field/section where we can state where the actual movie was made. So what you are basically asking is Filming Locations field? I wouldn't mix this with the Production companies by any means since they don't have anything to do with each other. Quote: Another example is Iron Sky whose production company is registered in Finland while the movie had a lot of filming in Australia (with a lot of Aust/NZ cast). Iron Sky was a co-production by Blind Spot Pictures Oy, 27 Films Production and New Holland Pictures. So the correct CoO for that is Finland, Germany and Australia. I cannot see the problem. |

| Posted: | | | | Many (most?) big Hollywood productions are filmed outside US for financial reasons. That doesn't make them any less American movies, at least not for me. IMHO CoO is now as it should be. |

There is Village Roadshow Pictures [au], but it didn't produce Matrix. Again, source IMDB. Don't know if it's right or wrong. | | | Last edited: by Kulju |

| Posted: | | | | @Lewis_Prothero Actually ;-)
@Kulju Ok you can call it Filming Locations instead then, either way I am referring to where the film was produced.
Re: Ironsky - take a look at the end of the credits on the film itself.
@Kulju 2nd post Not suggesting a change to the CoO
@KinoNiki Again, it's not the CoO as that refers to where the company has it's head office for that section/subsidary of the company according to the rules. Icon Entertainment is a classic example here.
@Kulju 3rd post Don't believe everything you read in Imdb :-) Actually it's fairly correct, especially if you check the filming locations. Also remember that up until the late 90's Warner Bros/Roadshow were basically partners. Roadshow took over the studio's in Australia that Warner built here (for cheaper production locations) after the first matrix movie.
On second thought, maybe filming locations is not quite right as there would be too many possible answers. Filming Locations by Country would be enough entries. |

While the parent company is in Australia, according to their website, their movie production business is primarily based in Los Angeles. As for the original request, I don't really care where the filming location is. | | | No dictator, no invader can hold an imprisoned population by force of arms forever. Which parts of the production exactly? Let's say that it was written in Finland, filmed in Australia, music was written in Germany and recorded in Italy, Visual Effects were made in US, editing was done in UK and so on, list can go on and on. Question remains, were was it "produced" in your opinion? It seems that you're after filming location, so why not call it so? | Posted: | | | | I sympathise with the suggestion but I am not sure. I do care about the filming locations, as it strongly reflects the content of the movie. Since studios are already recorded, the CoO, for me, is a bit duplicate of studio and less relevant for me. But that wasn't the proposal The issue also reminds me a bit of the heated discussions when the Lord of the Rings movies were released on DVD, and the question was whether CoO=USA or CoO=New Zealand. So, as some have pointed out, what countries exactly? At least x% screen time? To imagine the variety, some examples: Seeing each Bond movie again now the box is out, yesterday evening I watched Tomorrow Never Dies. The opening sequence is supposed to be Russia but was actually shot in the Alps (I think France), major sequences in Hamburg, Saigon and underwater (what country was that...) and as most Bond movies go, interior scenes shot on studio in the UK. Most BBC documentaries (and I really like them) are shot all over the world, simply because the landscapes cannot be moved and neither natural habitats of plants and animals, and also people being in specific environments (think the South Pacific documentary). Yes, for the 13 a dozen movies shot in studios or nearby outside the answer is simple, but I think you'd also have to consider the number of locations to record in DVDp and when is a location significant enough. And when the filming location is imaginary, what about that? Think Pandora (Avatar) of Mars (John Carter) . The location of the server park that rendered the imaging, like USA for ILM or New Zealand for Wheta? Location is also about "where the hell did they shoot that", to satisfy curiousity. But imaginary landscapes... a big can of worms. | | | Eric

End credits of the movie state "Filmed at Village Roadshow Studios, Gold Coast, Australia Frankfurt AM Main, Germany and New York, USA" I guess filming locations is more apt. |

| Posted: | | | | Ok I can see all the pitfalls, especially as eommen has pointed out. But, I think there are similar pitfalls with the CoO. I guess it's just one of these things that is most probably going to be to big for DvdP to clarify. Unless it's just major filming locations as per credits. |

I find that very hard to believe since it was one of the production companies. |
