| Posted: | | | | You mean just for storing the db? Without any means to display it but use another workstation?

| Posted: | | | | I've got a copy of my database on my 4gb pen drive.
Works great for moving my collection between home and work pc's.
Just install dvdprofiler on both and with the ability now to have mutiple databases, just have a database on your pen drive. | | | Home of the phpDVDProfiler forums |

| Posted: | | | | Yes it was possible with previous version of DVD Profiler. We can have a little script to copy reg info when starting DVD Profiler and update/delete them when we close DVD Profiler to delete all trace from the computer. But now with some directories in My Documents\DVD Profiler (Flags, Layouts, Reports, translations) and until we can't change the path where we install this directories, it's impossible to have a portable version of DVD Profiler.

| Posted: | | | | the new version does have the files spread out across your drive (under the root, program files, and my documents). so I haven't played with trying to get it to work off USB like I did with 2.5. | | | Schultzy - http://www.michaelschultz.net grenactics - The art of skillfully fraggin one’s opponent with the use of grenades or other compact explosive devices that are thrown by hand or projected. | | | Last edited: by schultzy |

| Posted: | | | | This would be great if it could be done... It'd be much better than having several versions of the database and trying to work out which one is the most up to date. I don't know how hard it is to make an application portable but this would be a great bonus if it could be done |

I think he means portable application E.g. I have my Opera on a USB-Stick always with me, fun to have an alternative browser without installation hassle.

| Posted: | | | | Yes, I meant 'portable application' - I use DVD-profiler at work and at home - so always one version isn't up to date. Would it be a great job to develop? |

Well, could put the Database on the USB-Stick. 3.x allows you to define where the database should be located. But do daily(!) backups when you do this. cya, Mithi | | | Mithi's little XSLT tinkering - the power of XML --- DVD-Profiler Mini-Wiki |

I had 2.4x and later 2.5xbeta installed on my Lexar Lightning and was able to run it with InstallAnything. For some reason the 3.x won't work with InstallAnything (or its replacement, Argo). I do have my database being stored on my Lexar, but the other user mods (reports, add-ons, etc.) need to be manually synced between both work and home desktop. It would be nice in a future release to be able to modify the paths for these locations. I'll post a request over at Ceedo to see if they can't work their code so functionality is returned to Argo. | Posted: | | | | There is an easy workaround to accomplish this. Setup DVD Profiler. Instead of C:\Program Files\DVD Profiler as a destination, choose X:\DVD\DVD Profiler, where X: is the drive letter of your memory stick. On your memory stick, create a subfolder DATA. In here you will copy the database of the program For Windows XP, copy all folders from C:\Documents and Settings\username\My Documents\DVD Profiler into X:\DVD\Data For Windows Vista, copy all folders from C:\Users\username\Documents\DVD Profiler into X:\DVD\Data Now launch Regedit, and browse to: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Invelos Software\DVD Profiler Change the following registry key: LayoutFileName to X:\DVD\Data\Layouts\4 Rows.dpl Again where X: is the drive letter of your memory stick. Close Regedit Now open your memory stick with Explorer and goto DVD\DVD Profiler, and double click on DVDPro.exe Click File --> Open Database --> Browse and browse to X:\DVD\Data\Databases\Default\Collection.DAT Now click OK Go back into the Open Database window and select the "old" database (located on C and click delete. Warning, this will also delete the files of your hard-drive, so make sure you have copied your full database to your memory stick before deleting it. Now, start Regedit again and browse to: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Invelos Software. Make sure Invelos Software is selected in the left column. The select file --> export --> type DVDPro.reg as filename. Save this regfile to your memory stick. On the second pc, doubleclick on DVDPro.reg to import the settings. If your memory stick has the same drive-letter on the second pc as on the first, the program will work. Otherwise, update the following two registry keys with the correct drive letter: AppPath LayoutFileName You will have to open the database on the correct drive letter once, to update the database path. You should now be able to plugin your memory stick in 2 computers and allways have the latest db. | | | View my collection at http://www.chriskepolis.be/home/dvd.htm
