I have three separate locations that I have my dvd's located at. I want to use the "loaned to" option to name  those particular locations, (summer home, winter home, daughter's home). I am designing a report to list the location I have the movie at alongside other items for each movie. I can edit each title to put the correct "loaned to" location for a particular movie, but since I own close to 1000 titles this will be very tedious. I'm aware I can flag numerous titles at once, but there is no option to assign a  "loaned to" that way.

Does anyone have any suggestions?

Thank you.

I would suggest creating new collection categories corresponding to the remote locations and moving DVDs into the appropriate collection.  Each of these collections can be included within the "owned" collection so the DVDs still show up there too.

Thanks for the suggestion. I already have each of the locations in separate collection categories. I don't want to do separate reports for each location, just organize all the titles in genre order. Is there any way to note on a report which collection category the movie is in? I can then display a text depending on which collection category the movie is in.

An alternative is to create a Location Tag and then create a child tag for each location.  You can filter and report on these.  You can set tags en masse on selected profiles.

You can use tags in reports by selecting the Personal Tab and using the Status widget.

That sounds like the right approach.

Unfortunately not, at least I didn't find it.

So Scotthm's idea of using tags seems to be the quickest way to go, see Create, edit and set Tags for starters.
Simply flag all titles in one Collection by pressing Ctrl&A and assign the appropriate tag.

Thank you.

As mentioned, using TAGs is probably the way to go. But I was wondering why I didn't put that function in BulkEdit. The answer is rooted in the fact that "loaned to" is handled in the database as an event, consisting of matched pairs of "loaned" and "returned" events. When DVD Profiler looks to determine who the DVD is currently loaned to, it looks to find the latest non-returned loan event. So, having multiple "loanees" is inconsistent with that semantic. Programmatically, it is possible for a plugin to create multiple un-returned loan events, but I was afraid of causing errors in the main program. You can see an example of what I mean if you loan a DVD, then before returning it, try to loan it again: notice that the menu actually changes - you have to return it first.

Other options include using the Notes field, or creating a custom database field using a plugin such as SideCar or Enhanced Notes.
