I’m a bit of a compulsive collector. Or perhaps “impulsive” is a more correct description. I have mellowed quite a bit with old age, but I still have that “problem”. I see titles and I think “That sounds like an interesting movie. I want that”. And I buy it.

Now, what happens when I get a DVD or a BD delivered is one of two things. Either I want to watch it right away, or I’m thinking that I’ll save it for later. And if I save it for later, there is a risk that it will be a lot later.

I have some really good films that I consider watching now and again, but it just never seems to be quite the right time. Do I want to watch Seven Samurai? Absolutely, but it’s 3 ½ hours long, and that’s a bit too much right now. How about Witchfinder General? No, I need to save that for some special occasion. Maybe The Pianist with Adrian Brody? Nah, seems too depressing, I need something a bit more upbeat tonight. The Absent-Minded Professor? Yeah, but I don’t feel like an old black-and-white movie just now. And that's how it goes.

And of course I have quite a few not so good movies for when that urges comes on. But I seem to buy them more often than I feel like watching them. So I have a Bela Lugosi box set that I bought 10 years ago, but I’ve only watched two out of nine movies. And that’s not the oldest one in my unwatched pile. I have DVDs that I bought 15 years ago that are still unwatched.

Out of some 6800 titles I still have about 1000 unwatched. And still I buy new titles. And still I sometimes have a hard time deciding what to watch.

But the pleasure about movies is not only watching them. I spend much time in collection activities (making profiles as correct as possible from a movie point of view (which makes them unfortunately uncontributable), searching for headshots, and maintaining "images from movies" sharing site).

I'm the same. Can't pass up a bargain on anything I am remotely interested in. Own about 12500 releases (4000 not yet catalogued) and have items in the to watch pile from as far back as December 1997 when I was 14. Over half of my life (32 now!).

But, I don't smoke, don't do drugs, don't drink too much and work bloody hard. Film is the one thing I spend a lot of money on, and I luckily have the spare funds to be able to indulge myself.

The biggest expense now is having to pay for a storage locker to put loads of boxes full of DVDs etc in at £75 a month.

My collection on DVD profiler says 1451, but i'm probably closer to about 2000 (I only count multi DVD sets as one). Out of those I've only watched about 200.
