| Posted: | | | | Hi, I've frequently seen Television listed as a Genre when actually the content first appeared as a television program. This bothered me but I never knew how to deal with it. I decided to do something about it and here's what I came up with: I created a custom media type called Television and added a small image of a Television set to be used as an icon. Now when I select that media type here's what I see displayed: TV imageAnyone else address this? |

| Posted: | | | | The media type is the type of disc or non-disc a video content was delivered to you.
Your way of solving is like adding to a list of delivery types: post card, letter, parcel ... and birthday congratulations. | | | Karsten DVD Collectors Online

| Posted: | | | | Never thought of it that way. The content was delivered by the television media. Sort of fitting after all. |

| Posted: | | | | While removing Television as a Genre, where it was inappropriate, it occurred to me that "Historical" as a Genre was not available by default. I created one and started editing my Profiles accordingly, but then it seemed that "Historical Drama" would actually be better. This followed by "War, Western, etc. seemed to be the way to go. Any thoughts on this? |

| Posted: | | | | Quoting jfrench: Quote: The content was delivered by the television media. Sort of fitting after all. But by that logic, you'd need a media type "cinema" because that's where most movies premiere. Only Direct-to-DVD movies would then get the DVD media type. But only if the movie wasn't from the 80s and was a Direct-to-Video release for which you'd need yet another media type. The media type is the type of media (DVD, Blu-ray, etc) on which you bought the movie or TV show you're holding. Don't let me stop you. I'm not overly fond of the Television genre either. But your solution is by no means better. Instead of using one ill-fitted field (genre) you use another (media type) | | | Karsten DVD Collectors Online

| Posted: | | | | I like Television as a genre.
My collection is large, and I didn't know about Tags until it was too late. I had already added 10,000+ profiles and I was not going through all those movies to add Tags.
So, when I want go through my collection, I use the built in Sort By section provided by invelos.
There are various ways one can sort through their collection, one way is to sort by genre.
The problem is the Sort By Genre is that the program will only find the data that is listed in the first field.
Some may not consider TV a genre, which may be true, but it is important to me if I want to find those DVDs in my collection. |

| Posted: | | | | I did understand your initial post. Here's a bit of background: I was creating a Report and wanted some way to flag the item when it was originally a television production. I wanted the header to reflect the genre of the production and Television was not appropriate. I, rather arbitrairily, chose to add Media type as it seemed as though it wouldn't cause problems and could easily be checked. Until your post I never correlated Media, the disc format to Media, the genre. Here's a REPORT IMAGE. I then discovered that in Profiler I could add a header to the cover image and that was icing on the cake. The image shows the television cover header and that wasn't there previously, just the little TV icon. This works well for me and due to the work involved I'm not recommending it to anyone. It has occurred to me that Media as a Genre encompassing all types of news media etc. would be handy. |

| Posted: | | | | Kathy, I didn't see your post prior to my last. After I saw it, I selected Media Type to be displayed in my Collection List and sorted on that column and found all my "Blu-ray, Television" and "DVD, Television" discs are grouped together. Although it was time consuming eliminating Television as a Genre was not very difficult as I already have my discs in separate binders for television and theatrical productions. Jim F. |

| Posted: | | | | Just a brief wrap up here. I've completed removing Television as a genre where inappropriate. Profiler Query helped me find a couple of dozen discs which were in locations other than the main binders. Great tool! I did have one strange problem with the Television header not displaying on some profile front covers. It turned out that if the Case type started with HD the header would not display. Took me a while to figure that one out. Strange. |

| Posted: | | | | there are some examples such as The Day After ( to name one) a 1983 made for TV movie ..
it did not play in the cinema theaters in North America...,,
But it did play in the Theaters in Europe..
Therefore the locality of said title should be TV as genre for Region 1 | | | In the 60's, People took Acid to make the world Weird. Now the World is weird and People take Prozac to make it Normal.

| Posted: | | | | Genre refers to the content, not the media. Whether a theatrical or television production has no bearing on the genre. |
